I was wondering this too. I think watch companies are usually pretty hush hush about things like this. So they probably didn't like the news being leaked before they officially announced it. I would bet it's true.

As much as I love GS, I have to say, their pulling the thread is foolish, in today's world, buzz is everything.
People reading this GS forum are their target market - the dedicated die-hards who don't need much persuasion to open their wallets to spring for another Snowflake (or whatever). That thread was just the kind of thing that keeps us coming back to watch people's comments.
I get that GS does things their way. But even they don't always get it right - look at the pix of watches on the US GS website - most only show washed-out frontal views. I've seen many pix on this forum that put the official GS shots to shame - if they were smart, they'd hire Gerald_D as a consultant.
Rant over.

No speculation on the why from me, but I'd tend to agree there should be a reason given if it wasn't requested to be taken down by the OP himself. It may have been a rumor, but that doesn't seem to be against any stated forum rules.

It got removed by an administrator/ moderator.
May I remind everyone here that according to forum rules, this type of discussion is not allowed either.
If you feel a need to know the details then you should pm a moderator via private message.
Personally I believe they removed the previous thread because it spoiled all the fun of the upcoming release. To me this behavior is a confirmation that what was discussed was all true.

There is absolutely nothing in the WUS forum rules or indeed the specific Grand Seiko Forum rules that was violated.

It's perhaps poor form to just delete the thread without any explanation, even commenting and locking it would have been a little better but of course I have no idea what gets said or agreed to behind the scenes.

Maybe someone might like to start a similar thread discussing it somewhere else, perhaps the Seiko & Citizen forum, or even F2, as those are non-sponsored forums.

Are you hoping they will notice you for a moderator job?

My thread..my beautiful beautiful thread..where have you gone? it got a :rodekaart

Ok, maybe the better answer would have been

"No, you are wrong, absolutely wrong, wronge di wrong wrong!"

By deleting it they could have just posted a "yep, thats how it is"

+ in the "new and upcoming Seiko" thread.. I forgot the users name, but someone who seems to know way more than I, says the same thing..

I am really excited to see how it is going to look..and a little bit afraid that I will not love it.. but I think Seiko knows what they are doing, so :-!

The problem with the Internet is that deleting things like this just causes 1) more discussion of the thing not to be discussed and 2) the information (or pics) will show up elsewhere where the sponsors and moderators don't have influence (eg: Reddit, or another forum).

This is internet 101.

+ I consider it quite a relevant thing.. at least for every WIS around here. Why? two reasons-

1. I am pretty sure that many pay attention to every detail on their watch before buying, especially above a certain price point.
So a differnt "face" will certainly cause some to buy now before the "old" ones are out of stock and cause some others to wait a few more weeks.
I myself would feel very uncomfortable if I pull the trigger now, just to see that two weeks later, the same model gets an update with something I might like a lot more.

2. I assume that many people around here know their average watch budget for the year, and also know what watches are planned.
It may have a real impact on what to buy.. do I want the Tag heuer or the Grand Seiko first? (just an example) so with changes on the horizon it will surely be a factor to consider.

So all in all.. I find it very relevant to get such info out as soon as possible to the hardcore fans/ afficionados/WIS folks, because even if we do not bring the majority of money, WE are the ones that care most.

I was refering to openly questioning and debating moderators reasons for removing threads. Their actions are not open for debate.
From the general WUS Rules & Regulations:
"2. Members who have personal issues with other members and moderators must resolve their differences outside the forum.
11. Moderators' and the administrator's decisions are final. If you are in doubt about a post, please contact a moderator before you submit your post. Membership of the forum can be revoked by the forum administration without any reason being given. Moderators reserve the right to delete any questionable posts pending additional request for documentation."
There is already an ongoing discussion on the new GS logo in the regular Seiko forum in the upcomming Seiko releases thread. Look it up.

I did not read the deleted thread before I saw this one. I got scared about any new logo. Luckily it is not as bad as could be inferred from "new Grans Seiko logo". The deleted thread is still in Google's cache. On the German Uhrforum someone claimed that at Baseworld Seiko will launch new models with "Seiko" removed from the dial and "Grand Seiko" moved to its location (12 o'clock) instead.

I certainly would prefer to keep the "Seiko", but can understand why Seiko wants to remove it. It's a pity though, for someone who needs to rub his wealth under peoples noses there are plenty of other options in the watch world.

Hate to break it to you, but nobody looking to flaunt their wealth in front of others is going to be buying anything Seiko; GS or otherwise.

Cool. Since they're listening, maybe we'll get the PR moved to the back, and a 40mm spring drive diver that's under 12mm thick. :)
Seriously Agree... I've been saying that forever. Actually Spring Drive don't need PR at all.. it is not at all connected. It has just 72 hours PR which is no great shakes. It is like let's 'ruin' the design by placing PR on the dial. There is no other reason to ruin a perfect dress watch dial than to ruin it and distinguish it with other Automatic watches.

Seiko did great by making Spring Drive movement but then you are losing out the buyers by purposely ruining the dial and making a busier dial dress watch. Makes no sense. But as you said.. if they are listening they should consider removing the PR too!!

Don´t take away my power reserve!!

No Seiko log, no pr, maybe less text- then there is only dial left, nothing on it.. that would be way too clean imho.. I like busier dials, so Seiko, if you are reading this, at least keep one with the pr in front for me, will you?!

@ Domo

That is what I am thinking too.. but I will try to hold my tears until I saw some real pictures, but then..uncontrolled...sobbing..
"omg, what happened, did you lose your job?"
"no, worse"
"is something with the family??"
"NO, I said it is worse!"
"What is it?"
"Seiko removes the word Seiko on their Grand Seikos!"
"Oh.. let me call that divorce lawyer my friend told me about"
:D

But seriously - I really hope I like it, because I am really afraid that the dial might get too clean and I always wanted a SBGR053..but not after my Snoflake/Iwate dilemma is solved, and that means next year probably and even if my AD has a SBGR in stock for like.. a few months now, I do not think it will last till I have the funds together to buy another one

The logo isn't "new", it's just that exactly what is on the current GS watches directly under the hands, the stacked "GS" and "Grand Seiko" in gothic font, are moved up to where "SEIKO" used to be. It's horrible IMO, but that's what you allllllllll wanted, right? RIGHT?? *sobbing*

It'll go a little way to appeasing the many who believe that "Seiko GS Grand Seiko" is too many "Seiko" words. But damn them, I like the word Seiko!
