Can someone explain what happened to the thread regarding the above? It was taken down for some reason, but why? Rumor, truth, absolute lie? It would be nice if someone explained.

It got removed by an administrator/ moderator.
May I remind everyone here that according to forum rules, this type of discussion is not allowed either.
If you feel a need to know the details then you should pm a moderator via private message.
Personally I believe they removed the previous thread because it spoiled all the fun of the upcoming release. To me this behavior is a confirmation that what was discussed was all true.
There is absolutely nothing in the WUS forum rules or indeed the specific Grand Seiko Forum rules that was violated.

It's perhaps poor form to just delete the thread without any explanation, even commenting and locking it would have been a little better but of course I have no idea what gets said or agreed to behind the scenes.

Maybe someone might like to start a similar thread discussing it somewhere else, perhaps the Seiko & Citizen forum, or even F2, as those are non-sponsored forums.
I was refering to openly questioning and debating moderators reasons for removing threads. Their actions are not open for debate.
From the general WUS Rules & Regulations:
"2. Members who have personal issues with other members and moderators must resolve their differences outside the forum.
11. Moderators' and the administrator's decisions are final. If you are in doubt about a post, please contact a moderator before you submit your post. Membership of the forum can be revoked by the forum administration without any reason being given. Moderators reserve the right to delete any questionable posts pending additional request for documentation."
There is already an ongoing discussion on the new GS logo in the regular Seiko forum in the upcomming Seiko releases thread. Look it up.
Just what every forum needs, forum cops who like to read people the rules and attempt to do the moderators job for them. Do you think they need your help doing their job?
Do you think other forum members need you reminding them of the rules and what would inspire you to do that?
cheers
Cobia, take a chill pill and relax.
I was just warning the community and pointing out the rules to prevent members who maybe unaware of them from inadvertently violating them thus incurring an infraction.
Re your question, if they didn't value our help they wouldn't have created a "report post" function. Which I didn't use by the way.
I'm rather curious to know the reason as to deserve such a blunt response from you.
For what it's worth, the thread disappeared well before yesterday and the time frame indicated by stuffler. Like, before this past weekend.
Yep.
Hi mate, the blunt response is because i just dont think its healthy for the forum to have members attempting pulling each other into line over minor stuff like you did here.
Imo nobody was questioning the moderators decision, the OP just wanted to know what happened to a thread that turned out to have been deleted in the update it looks like, you turned it into something it wasnt.
If somebody had questioned the moderators decision why highlight it? if the Mods are not hapopy im sure they will let him know.
He wasnt rude or disrespectful in any way to anybody, theres no need to highlight your perceived rule breaking of your fellow forum members is there?
Its sort of like the kid in school who likes to point out to the teacher the other kids doing the wrong thing, theres nothing cool about that, thus the blunt response, no hard feelings.
cheers
Look, all I did was point out a rule. Shaggydog claimed that no such rule existed, at which point I felt compelled to quote the rules in question. I wasn't pulling anyone in line. Just pointing out a fact. The thread was removed over the weekend long before the update took place as bluedialer stated above. I suggest you reread the thread and reacquaint yourself with the facts. None taken. Let's just let bygones be bygones.

2. Members will be kind and courteous, and respectful to other members and the moderators. No direct or indirect personal attacks or insults of any kind will be allowed. Posts which antagonize, belittle or humiliate other members and/or the moderators will not be tolerated, nor will racism, sexism, bigotry or foul language.

Just trolling :)
Touché.

@yvliew can you post a photoshopped picture where the bottom text is place on top of one another?
Shouldn't we be seeing some actual pictures from Basel in a few days?
3 to be exact!
I posted this picture in another thread of a vintage grand Seiko a while back. I don't even know if it's a genuine GS or not, but if it is, then it proves that besides the first GS posted earlier in this thread, throughout history not all GS had the large Seiko logo at the top, and that Seiko have chosen to omit the large Seiko logo in the past.

OK, so I thought it would be useful to write up a quick article for the blog that details the dial variations (with photos of course!) across the vintage Grand Seiko range -

Vintage Grand Seiko dial layouts - WatchDXB

I believe the Seiko press conference kicks off at 10am CET tomorrow - can't wait!

Kind regards,

Gerald.
Nice bit of reading.
And for that we thank you.
Your knowledge on vintage GS is impressive.
It's still a Seiko watch that says Seiko with a "Grand" in front of it on the dial. Made in the same place, the same way they have been making them. I'm still not getting this "independent" talk and how Grand Seiko is suddenly so different now.
It has more to do with perception rather than change. Nothing has really changed, except for the dial configuration. They just want to be perceived differently and are trying to disassociate themselves from the parent company. Like a teenager whom is ashamed of his parents and would rather not be seen with them.

Fortunately I kept the SBGW047.
In more ways than you could have anticipated.
