OK, so I thought it would be useful to write up a quick article for the blog that details the dial variations (with photos of course!) across the vintage Grand Seiko range -

Vintage Grand Seiko dial layouts - WatchDXB

I believe the Seiko press conference kicks off at 10am CET tomorrow - can't wait!

Kind regards,

Gerald.

Nice bit of reading.
And for that we thank you.
Your knowledge on vintage GS is impressive.

Now that is just peachy! Do you know the reference for it?
It's a AQ400-51E. They have a couple of other dials for that model - including blue - which I'd consider, but I've viewed the hugely impressive SBGA127 with my own eyes and don't think I could commit to another blue dial sight-unseen after that experience.

The diver is interesting, but not in a way which appeals to me.

Not trying to be harsh, but doing away with the 'SEIKO' logo is a bridge too far for me. As has been stated, these are the best watches Seiko can make and a showcase of what the brand can do, they are not a separate brand. Although if the right vintage VFA sans the SEIKO logo came along, you can call me a hypocrite... ;-)

As has been pointed out before, this new 12 o'clock text is not new, just repositioned, but I also agree that it looks just plain wrong. Maybe a part of that is just being so used to the way it used to look, but I actually NEVER liked the combination of 'GS' and 'Grand Seiko', even when it was at the 6 o'clock position. I do quite like the look of those 1960s reissues, though, with just 'Grand Seiko' at the top. It is in this vein that I also quite like my SBGV009 with no 'GS' on the dial. I don't mind the 'GS' per se, but not in combination with 'Grand Seiko'.
