Just got an email from yeomanseiko with regards to the release of new Seiko 5 'monsters'!

My first impression is: WOW! Raised lume dots, big 'peaceful-looking' indices that are well proportioned (look at the 3 o'clock lume detail!), 4r36 movement (hacking & handwinding)!

God i can already imagine the nuclear lume these will output..

Not 100% sure on size.. looks slightly bigger than the current Monsters (maybe 44mm?). Yeoman lists diameter to be 47mm including the crown.

I wish the case was brushed and not polished.. and that the bracelet had solid end links; but i guess they can't make a Seiko 5 too attractive that it'll knock out some of their higher end lines.

Here are some additional specs:

Diameter: 47mm including crown
Thickness: 13mm
Lug width: 22mm
Lug to lug: 49.5mm
Water resistance: 100m

I think it's pretty safe to predict that these will inevitably earn a cult following.
What are your thoughts?

Wow. The blue dial is a winner for me.
Same here :) I like the way Blue-Gold looks. Very warm! Also notice how the 'Seiko' and '5 shield' are also colour matched (contrast to the non-matched logo on the red Golgo version; probably for legibility reasons).

I reeeaally like the looks of these. 47mm scares me though!
You're not the only one! But do keep in mind that 47mm is including the crown. I'd put these at 43-44mm. It will definitely wear larger than the current Monsters though as the lug to lug on these is 49.5mm!

If it's 47mm including crown, then it's like 42-44mm excluding it.

Either way - I like these, they have a crispness/sharpness that the previous generation sorely lacked; this is particularly down to the redesigned indices, which no longer look like plastic toys.

They look great, but what is this going to do to the Monster line? These 5's blur well into Monster territory with size, looks, and movement. What will the price be?

I agree, but these do not look as sturdy as the current monsters (no drilled lugs, no solid end links, only 100m WR). Seiko is coming out with an updated monster design with the 6r15 movement (specifics in seiko forum) so perhaps the gap is relatively similar? Maybe theyre discontinuing the current SRP monster line? You never know with Seiko..

Would be nice if the indices were actually raised and not painted on with a thick layer of Lum on top. If they raised up around and bordered the Lum, now that would look sweet.
Probably, well definitely more expensive to do though.

Think we're gonna have to stop calling them "baby monsters" if they get any bigger
