NEW Seiko 5 Monsters!

Just got an email from yeomanseiko with regards to the release of new Seiko 5 'monsters'!

My first impression is: WOW! Raised lume dots, big 'peaceful-looking' indices that are well proportioned (look at the 3 o'clock lume detail!), 4r36 movement (hacking & handwinding)!

God i can already imagine the nuclear lume these will output..

Not 100% sure on size.. looks slightly bigger than the current Monsters (maybe 44mm?). Yeoman lists diameter to be 47mm including the crown.

I wish the case was brushed and not polished.. and that the bracelet had solid end links; but i guess they can't make a Seiko 5 too attractive that it'll knock out some of their higher end lines.

Here are some additional specs:

Diameter: 47mm including crown
Thickness: 13mm
Lug width: 22mm
Lug to lug: 49.5mm
Water resistance: 100m

I think it's pretty safe to predict that these will inevitably earn a cult following.
What are your thoughts?

I received this morning. It's beautiful. ;-)
Niceee!

Please tell us, how is the bezel click? Is the crown screw down? How is the lume?

The bezel is unidirectional 60 clicks. The crown is push and pull. The lume is very bright as other Seiko 5s, but not long when compared with the Seiko Monster SKX779.
Is the bezel coated metal?

Any chance for a lume shot?

Very nice by the way

I haven't seen any "coated metal" material, so I can't answer your question. Hope you can find the answer from my photos in the previous post.
That looks really nice rokai - can't wait for mine to arrive.
The lack of a bezel guard makes this version look like a different watch to me. I wouldn't call it a monster IMO.
You could call it a ham and cheese sandwich for all I care. Cool looks, solid quality and killer value are what matter to me.

Thank you for those pics. That bezel definitely doesn't look like plastic/resin. That shine looks metallic.
They look great, but what is this going to do to the Monster line? These 5's blur well into Monster territory with size, looks, and movement. What will the price be?
Seems they've upspecced the Monster with a 6r15, dropped the day, added a cyclops and put them in the Prospex line

Hey Guys,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm considering picking one of these up and had some questions. First, is the bracelet adjustment with split pins, or does it use the pin and collars like the "regular" Monsters? I'm hoping it's just split pins (I can't stand pin and collars), but wanted to check to be sure. Second, is the lume up to the usual Seiko brightness and longevity standards? I've read a few different articles that mention the lume doesn't last as long as other Seiko models which surprised me. Lastly, has anyone had issues receiving this model with off centered indices or chapter rings? I really like the looks of this model (wish it had a lume pip though), and wanted to get some additional feedback from owners of this model.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Iyonk,

I noticed that on my Neo Monster on the 12 triangle indices. I thought I had a defect. Where did you learn about Seiko purposely misaligning indices as a trademark? I'm curious, what other model Seikos did they misalign their markers?

Cheers,
Led Pencil

Nice...!!
they even purposely put some misalign indices and marker on some of them as seiko trademark..
