This is a recent pick up that I got off the bay. It was constantly being relisted with no bids so I shot the seller an offer and purchased it. Upon receiving it and opening the back I was surprised to find a 2183 movement in it. I was expecting a 2210 movement because of the crown at 3 and the lack of a second hand. The 2183 was apparently supposed to be a dress movement and is actually fairly thin. I fitted a correct battery with a spacer and it took off humming. The case is all steel and is in good condition, the crystal has some light crazing but nothing major. This marks the fourth type of Accutron movement in my collection and it's here to stay. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Nice find.
Just out of curiosity, how much did it cost you?
I have no idea about the ballpark Accutron's are in.

That's a very good deal.
Had you said $350 I'd still have thought it was quite fair.
I rather like your new gadget, perhaps it's time to start looking for one of those.
Is there anything besides non-working movements to look out for with Accutrons?

Bulova's Accutron was a great step in the history of the watch and I would recommend one for anyone's collection. I currently have 4 Accurtons with differing movements. The 214 came first and is backset, this is also considered the most desirable movement. The 218 came later and usually has the crown at 4 O'clock, mine above has a 2183 which is a 2 hand version. There is also a 2210 movt which was used in ladies watches and some mens dress models, it also has 2 hands. I believe the 219 was the last of the tuning fork models and only had one fork. The span of the tuning fork Accutrons ranged from 1960 to 1977.

If you are looking to buy one a working or humming movement is definitely better than non running. Accutron service specialists are becoming more rare and some are quite expensive so keep that in mind. My advise would be to look through a lot of the models to find one you like then start searching for one you can afford. Best of luck!

Good advice. I just started getting into the Vintage market, and advanced research and recon is key to finding a good watch.

Nice blue dial on your Accutron. Great find.

Thanks, the reason I recommended looking through the models is because of the variety of Accutrons. There are a lot of different designs from funky to conservative and everything in between. There are quite a few asymmetric designs which I like and have two of and it sets them apart from some of the more common offerings. As far as Accutrons go there is a design for everyone.

I was just given the same watch as picture above, running, free of engraving, (could use a polishing), band is not original. Are you interested in the piece?
