Good evening all,
Christmas came a bit early for me this year with a wife approved gift to myself. I have been leaning away from rotating bezels lately as I never really use them and had a bezel click spring break on an older Bell & Ross. I have been building up a little collection with a diver, tool watch, chronograph, G-Shock, but had yet to pick up a dressier option for the office. For me, the Longines Conquest 39mm fits the bill in spades. It also is versatile enough for dressing down, but definitely gives a bit of satisfying pop and flash no matter what you're wearing.
Performance-wise, this particular movement (L888, based on the ETA 2892) is running on average +2.54s/day over the last couple days with a nominal power reserve of a generous 72 hours. Crown operation and manual winding is extremely smooth, much more so than for example an ETA 2824. The crown guards do make getting a good purchase on the knurled sides a bit difficult, but then again, that's kind of the point. The black dial version features printed indices with lume, unlike the blue dial version which has applied indices with no lume. This makes the black dial version a little more functional and tool like which is my preference. 300m of water resistance is definitely overkill for me personally as if I'm actually doing anything in water the G-Shock goes on, but it does give peace of mind.
Fit and finish is excellent with no visible imperfections anywhere including on the dial itself. Case finishing is perfect with polished accents that look liquid. Subtle details like the center fold in the hands add a nice touch. The bracelet is definitely one of the most comfortable bracelets I've felt with freely articulating center links with pins both top and bottom. The bracelet really feels like it hugs your wrist. Though some may not like the dual button butterfly clasp, I find it aesthetically pleasing compared to a chunky diver-type deployant clasp with the additional benefit of being slim. The dual button setup also gives me confidence that it will not easily deploy accidentally.
Overall, I am loving the watch and am excited to share this new watch day with some fellow WIS(s). Behold, and watch your eyes because this thing is shiny.
