Hey guys!

I’m relatively new to photography and recently purchased a Nikon D3300. I’m interested in watch photography and would like to invest in a macro lens.

Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

Below are pictures I took with the stock lens. Thanks in advance.

Wow, what a coincidence - I recently got a D3300 because my wife needs high res macro pictures of small items for her business. I purchased a body only (no kit lens), a used Nikon AF-S DX Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G lens, and a ring light.

I am really, really happy with that lens and would recommend it without reservation after having used it for several months now.

Here's my blog post from when I first got the setup, along with some of my first macro test shots. Forgive the poor technical aspects, but those were from the very first time I tried it after unboxing everything. I've gotten better since.

If I recall, I paid around $125 for the lens, used, at B&H (they go for around 250 new).

Hope this helps, and best of luck with your Nikon!
