OK, Now that we all know what each other looks like and what our watches look like how about this.

What do you do for a living? As in how do you pay for all the things we put on our wrist. Now if you are retired, lucky devils (like Steve - XTrooper) tell us what you did before you retired. :-D

This should be interesting. |> We like hearing about what others do for a living. Some people have some really interesting professions/jobs.

So we will start off.

Sandra - She does on-site (local) computer support. She supports a custom built system for the Government. Along with supporting the system she is a Sybase DBA, Unix Admin, and does end user support. Her system has to be up 24/7. So she is on call 24/7.

Stephen - I also do on-site computer support. I support an off the shelve system called Teamcenter Enterprise. This system allows customers to handle documentation, along with other things. I am also an Oracle DBA, Unix admin. I do on-site support (presently doing support in Lexington, KY), so that is why I travel every week Mon-Thurs. I also do end user support.

Great idea Steven, ok .............
I work in 3 rural Hospitals aka the name used for ebay originaly.
I work fulltime in my home town as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, in charge of Transfusion Medicine ( blood bank ), and Coagulation.
I am also the head of a 2 man program that provides education for fellow MLT's free of charge in the area for 11 hospitals, get to travel the area and meet tons of people for that.
I was asked 5 yrs ago just before my eldest went into a Masters Architecture program, to work some extra weekends and take call at a hospital 45 minutes south of me-so thinking of the cost for the next 7 yrs so I did, it snowballed and another hospital asked me to work casual take call 15 minute away.
I am the sole bread winner so I took it, with my son now ready to enter a University teaching degree, why not. It has also afforded me to buy my passion and sickness - WATCHES!
PS- we rely so much on IS, IT people they save our hides since computers and LIS's are our number one priority for blood work etc.

Robert

I'm a prepress engineer. What the heck is that I hear you say!

I support and maintiain the internal systems at a contract newspaper printing site. So in effect I am a systems administrator, electronic engineer, mechanical and electrical engineer and a general fixer. It all sounds good, but I'm really here in case something breaks. I get to watch a lot of tv and dvds and browse online watch forums. Its not bad after all!!!

We're only a small island, but around 1million papers leave here every night, except sunday, when its around 1.5mill.

Small world. My wife worked for Sybase in California for several years before she suffered a serious injury to her spine. She was no longer able to work and had to leave Sybase:-( .

I am the senior Firearms Program Specialist (on my shift) at the ATF National Tracing Center. Basically I trace guns that have been used in crimes throughout the nation.

I am an management info systems director for a small 2 year college in NE PA. If it has a wire attached to it, it belongs to me :-D
PC's, servers, LAN/WAN/WLAN/VPN, classroom technology, student/billing database (recently replaced with a new system, 2 million dollar headache, I mean project), web sites, student computer labs, A/V support, telephones, ID cards/security swipes/dorm cameras, etc. etc.

In my spare time I play drums in a local rock band (28 years next month!), plus I maintain the computers at my kids' school as a volunteer, Boy Scout/Cub Scout leader, home automation consultant, and I help my father-in-law in his TV business fixing electronics.

Here is a pic of me at our favorite roadhouse...

Cheers,
Griff
