Yesterday I took the old watch of my grandfather - vintage Кировские. He was wearing it since I remember him, till few years ago. The watch is working, I still didn't measure how exactly it is keeping the time. I will try to restore it as it's one of my memories linked with my grandfather.
Just to post the pictures here, I hope there will be "before" and "after" post soon

Great dial

Looks like a new crystal (and maybe a crown) would make it quite sharp looking
The glass, the crown and I will investigate possibility to replate the case, as it seems chromed (this or next week I will browse the jeweleries).
I want to reach this result (USSRWatches picture):

Nice Kirovskie, sci. Best of luck with the restoration, and be sure to post some pictures of the end result. It will be great to own a restored vintage watch which belonged to your grandfather - a real family heirloom.

Here's my Kirovskie - it only recently came into my collection:

Here's a green one I got last week. These are fun watches.

I love those green ones - still looking for one. It was actually a green one I was after when my brown one turned up, but I took it anyway...
The green one is my favorite, but all the crabs are nice. Do they come in other colors in addition to green and brown?

I think the stem on mine may be new but other than that is in good shape and original.

sorry for double posting :-d
Two fine examples there, Vaurien.

Does the top one really have a black circle on the dial though? It's obviously the same watch as mine, but to me it looks more like a very dark brown colour....or perhaps they are different versions - yours black and mine dark brown  ....

I call these watches hubcaps - because they remind me of the hubcaps on some of the cars from the 1950s :)

The circle around dial, in the first of my Kirovskies, is really black. I think there are also other versions, maybe a red one? ... if I remember well

And here it is today, after I took it from the watchmaker. Unfortunately the crown and stem needed replacement. The watchmaker also was able to re-plate it with chrome, but convinced me that the watch will loose it's "natural" view, so the case was just cleaned, the mechanics - cleaned and oiled, the glass - replaced and I even get one year warranty for the watch :)

Waw! :p
relevant I think........these Hubcab Kirovskies ARE very pretty to me....love the red one.....with white middle that someone posted here somewhere. In the meantime here's a guy who restored one....I think a repaint can look quite nice if done well .
