I can't for the life of me tell.

I have looked at Colin site on how to tell a fake but..

What say the smarter minds?

It's up on the bay right now

http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-Omega-1970...ches?hash=item2c507644a1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I asked the seller how much he wanted for it and he replied:

Excelent, we have a deal. Well, i purchased this from the original owner, a guy in NY and the service were done also in NY.So, if you are ready to proceed in business reply me with your shipping details and your phone number so i can contact eBay and start the deal. For the payment, as for the moment i'm in Barcelona with my job and here paypal or checks are not accepted yet ( non-US ) i arranged an insurance with eBay that secures our deal, as i deal only through eBay. Check my feedback, you will see that i'm a trusted seller here, so there will be no problem with this.

Regards,
Sabin T
p.s.: don't forget about the number. i work at a military base here ( at El Prat Military Base, actually Barcelona Airport ) and the number from here it's (516) 874-XXXX You can call anytime and ask with Sergent Sabin T.

The phone number is in Nassau, NY o|o|o|o|

That BS just cracks me up ..... Some of these guys are unreal .

All of the fake cases are C-Notch at the crown from the front, but not all c-Notch are fakes .

One of my PloProf`s

You can tell more from the real caseback

This fake however has a bunch of real parts ..... somebody went to a lot of Trouble to put it together .

All the best,
Vic :)

Well, my bad. Sorry.
I replied on DWF, but am just catching this thread here. The listing is gone - did anyone get the photos? If yes, I'd appreciate if any photos other than the above three could be forwarded to me.

I have posted a few threads about fake and franken Ploprofs on WUS. These watches have appeared on eBay, WUS and well-respected watch sales sites. I'm very concerned that the number of frankens is increasing - it's been a couple of years since I've seen a complete fake appear FS. Not only that, but increasingly there are signs that people are going through great pains to eliminate the telltale signs of a fake case. Clearly, they are reading DeskDivers and posts about the fakes and trying to work around detection by modifying the case and showing only select photos and certain angles.

Prospective Ploprof buyers need to review the pertinent threads about fakes/frankens and ask for three photos:

1. A lume shot. Fake bezels do not have any lume elements.
2. Macro photo of the back.
3. Macro photo of the lug recesses with bracelet removed.

These latter two will show the characteristic 'cast' appearance of the case in these areas. The metal in the recesses can be rough, but it should look machined, not cast.

Finally, as always, buy the seller. And email or PM me, Vic or another Ploprof owner if you still need help.

Thanks Colin,
With the price of these gone up, there is a clear incentive for investing time in producing "good" fakes. One really needs to be careful with these...:-( Personally, I would be hesitant to purchase a vintage Ploprof without inspecting it in person.
