Omega Seamaster Two Tone-Is it similar to Yacht Master on Oysterflex?

Hi all,
Recently I had to reset my collection.
I'm not yet in a position to acquire a Yacht Master but I really like that watch.
Would you consider an Omega SM300 Two Tone on rubber to be os a similar style?
I can get the Omega soon in a trade.
For YM I still need to save a few years.

I know the YM is considered better watch, but the SM gives me similar vibes.

Please let me know what you think.
Thanks.
Andy

I can see the similarity between the 2 but the YM wins by a mile. Although it should do considering the price difference.

For me the problem with the Omega, is the basic steel SMP is so iconic (hate using that term), it feels like the TT version is an attempt by Omega to cash in on their SMP range but adding a gold bezel and crown. They can literally convert the basic steel in a couple of clicks. It's a stunning watch though.

With the YM youre looking at its a completely different colour scheme to the "regular" YM ie different dial and case. It has its own identity from its blue and rhodium dialled counterparts.

The SMP for me all the way. I've owned this SMP in yellow gold and it's a beauty. The sheen of the dial pops so well against the gold on the bezel, and because of the size, it has way more wrist presence than the YM.

Plus, you get the exhibition case back. Lume is of equal quality, but the price difference of these two is absolutely ludicrous. Is the YM a $30K watch? I think it's a joke and a ripoff. You're paying for the brand name and the marketing budget of Rolex, and the YM won't hold it's value like some of the other sport models. The Omega is a better watch at a reasonable price, and it can be found pre-owned for an even better deal.

I just don't get Rolex as a watch that everyone has to have. If you're going to pay $30K for a watch, look at AP Code 11.59, Vacheron, etc. There are so many better pieces out there for that kind of money.

Also, here is a UN with rhodium dial, gold. Half the price of the YM, and you can definitely get a discount, or pre-owned. It's got the power reserve indicator, date, and it's more toned down that the SMP and YM.

My opinion: If you want the Yacht-Master, then buy the Yacht-Master and nothing "similar", because every look you take at the "similar" watch will remind you that you actually wanted a different watch.
If you can't afford the Yacht-Master now, then keep saving and remember that buying the Seamaster will put you A$12,000.00 away from buying a Yacht-Master.

If you now – for whatever reason – but absolutely need a new watch, then choose something much cheaper that is visually different from the Yacht-Master.

Settling is rarely a good thing.

That said, I prefer the SMP over the YM. I think it’s a better looking watch. It’s every bit as well made. It has a top-notch movement. I get a kick out of the exhibition caseback. The extra money would go a long ways toward a nice car. So, yeah, the SMP for me.

Respectfully we'll have to agree to disagree on this one...they went so wrong (for me) on this one. From that dial, hour/minute hands, date at 6 o'clock🙄 and that dumb arse He escape crown.

The only thing that I like are the lugs.

If you serious about wanting an Omega YM alternative....get this. The bezel is the feature that makes a YM a YM.

And for the money I'd buy this in a heartbeat if it didn't have the ridiculous He crown. FMD

Taking everything into consideration I would pick the Omega. The YM isn’t worth the cost IMO

My humble advice, is that you buy a Seamaster because you want a Seamaster, not because it's similar to another brand's model that you truly want.

I speak from the experience early in my collecting where buyers remorse eventually set in and all I saw on my wrist at that point was an "imposter".

As an owner of a Seamaster and a Submariner, they each were models I wanted for their own heritage and personal preferences. However, if I had picked up the SMP to fill in for the green Sub, I know it would have eaten at me overtime. Not because the SMP isn't amazing...but because it's a reminder of what I couldn't get yet.

YMMV.

*disclaimer: I'm not calling anything Omega an imposter to anything, only any watch someone buys to fill in for the watch that's out of reach.

not sure if I agree with this. But, if you want a yacht master - I wouldn't recommend getting a watch to scratch the itch. Unless you really like the Omega - then go ahead.

I'd keep saving for a few years and really enjoy the yacht master when you get it.

I just bought the two tone SMP (in sedna gold) and I am currently on a waitlist for the silver dialed YM.

I love my new SMP, it is interesting to look at and the rubber strap is very comfortable on the wrist. Plus it has a see though caseback. Personally, I visually like the HE valve in gold more than in steel, because it does add that extra touch of gold when looking at the watch. I will say the SMP does have a more chunky dive watch feel on the wrist, because well... it's a dive watch.

When trying on the YM it definitely felt more sleek on the wrist and had a more flashy look, in a different way. It didn't have the same chunky dive watch feel as the SMP, because well... it's not a dive watch. Go figure.
