Does anyone here know if the eight digit serial number on the inside of the lug of modern SMP's has a code for the year of manufacture within it?

Thanks guys

Stevie,

The movement (serial) number contains no such code.

You will find lists of numbers on the Omega site as well as on Chuck Maddox's site that have the approximate dates of manufacture.

Stevie,

Here is the chart from the Omega site:

Omega Movement Number Chart

Remember that these numbers indicate the earliest production year and not the actual year of production. For instance, my 3592.50 Speedy Pro was actually manufactured in 1992 but has a movement number (48288###) indicating that it could have been produced as early as 1985.

Chuck Maddox also has a couple of Speedmaster charts on his website:

Chuck's Articles

I hope this helps.
