I am obviously a total newb...

I purchased this Orient on a whim today and am looking for a little help. Here is the watch, an Orient ER27009B - Symphony (aka FER27009B here in Thailand)....

I realized when I got home there are no instructions, only a guarantee booklet. If this watch was supposed to come with one, i'm not surprised... things in Thailand are very odd. Got the box and 1 year warranty stuff though. The lady fit it and set it for me.

So, I realized when I got home, I have no idea if I can wind this watch? The crown seems to spin freely, which was also a point of concern. I guess that is just normal.

Any info appreciated on how to operate the crown. This is my first watch (besides my trusty old g-shock from high school), and was just being overly cautious.

Also, a user's manual would be nice. I looked, but didn't find any online.... but if somebody knows of a link :)

Thanks all, and have a great day.

Oh, and by the way... I absolutely love this watch, in total adornment of it. Haven't worn a watch in 15 years, and when it went on, it pulled a few hairs, but then we got it fit right and it felt like it was at "home".

Oh, forgot... should i feel 100% free to jump in the pool with this on. It says 50m. I know i'm being cautious, but it doesn't look too water worthy... I guess I am more worried about jumping in while forgetting it is on me.

Last note: I have an incoming Citizen PMX56 2811, God help me stop, please.

Congratulations, Oogabooga!

That's a very nice watch. Wear it in good health!

I suspect the "ER" means it's one of Orients Calibers that do not hack and that are not handwindable.
Nevertheless a good watch...

The Cal. seams to be the 487 (Have a look here: Orient manuals)

This is what you should do:

HOW TO SET THE TIME & DATE
[DW(48D), ER(487), NR(557), PF(597)]

(1) Pull the crown out to the first click.
The crown on this watch can be pulled
out to the first and second clicks.

(2) Turn the crown counterclockwise to set
the date indicator to the previous date.
About date correction at month's end:
Date correction is necessary for months
with 30 days or less. In this case, set the
date to the [1st day] on the first day of the
next month.

(3) Pull out the crown to the second click.
The second hand does not stop.
Turn counterclockwise

(4) Turn the crown clockwise and set the
current time.
Since this watch comes with a calendar,
make sure that you set either a.m. or
p.m. without fail.
The date changes at [twelve o'clock
midnight].
When setting the time, first bring the
hand back slightly later than the actual
time and then move it forward to the
actual time.

(5) Press the crown in to the normal
position.

Thanks guys. That manual answered all my questions. I can swim with it by the way.

This is really a nice watch. It's outward appearance is so simple and beautiful, it reminds me of a classic piece with some modern overtones. And, it is nice to know you can get such a simple, uncomplicated and gorgeous watch for such a good price.

Thanks. Yeah, I didn't even realize it had fallen through the cracks so much in terms of review. Im guessing it is a pretty new watch??

I'll get some photos today, and do a photo based review. I'd do a write-up, but my watch knowledge is terrible, ha. I am loving this watch though -- i needed a watch because im starting a new job tomorrow, but i didnt want to spend a lot yet wanted something nice.... this watch was just totally perfect for my needs.
