PAM00171 vs. PAM00124 - Am I wrong?

Thanks all! I purchased a used watch on EBAY that appears authentic.. triple boxed, etc. Went through their authentication just fine. It was listed/ sold as a PAM00124.

When I enter the serial number from the back of the watch on the Panerai site, it shows as a PAM00171. Do any of you experts know the difference? Mine came with a leather strap (and some additional, non-Panerai ones). But I would be surprised if that would be enough to change the serial number... maybe I am wrong?

The stock image is from the Panerai website for the PAM00171. Attached is mine.

I have done some research, but the descriptions appear to be the same.. titanium case with steel bezel. My caseback says it is a series G 262 300 (I am assuming this is 262 made of 300?)

171 is the later model of the 124 to the best of my knowledge.

If yours is a 171 then it was missold to you, and if you are unhappy you may have a case to go back to the seller.

From looking at different photos online and reading a post where someone points it out, the older 124 has a brushed bezel & brushed crown guard and the 171 has polished bezel and polished crown guard.

Photo of the 124 from a reputable seller:

I'm not familiar enough with the smaller PAMs but my 126 says "hi"

It's not unusual for Panerai to change the ref. number because of a strap/bracelet. I have a 1392 that I bought the bracelet for and it magically became a 722 [emoji23]

Here are some details from Watch Lounge, which I find is a great reference for Panerai;
