My Hamilton Chrono-matic has a defect 30 minute counter wheel, which should be part no# 8020 according to the schematics. When looking for a replacement part, I can't find any Calibre 11 #8020 parts, but I can find a bunch of Valjoux parts with the same number, more specifically Valjoux 7730/7733, Valjoux 5 and a bunch of other Valjoux movements. Most of them not too pricey. My question is, far-fetched as it may be, will one of these fit my Calibre 11?

I very much doubt it! Similar numbering of parts on different movements is in my opinion mere coincidence.

The Valjoux 7730 series was originally made by Venus. The chronograph module for the Cal. 11 was designed by Dubois-Depraz. The construction of the two movements differs greatly. So: different makers, different movements, different movement types, different eras (1940s vs. 1960s)..... If the two parts do match up, I would be most surprised.

To back up that claim, have a look at the parts on the different movements:

bidfun-db Archiv: Uhrwerke: Hamilton 11 Chronomatic (Buren 1281)

bidfun-db Archiv: Uhrwerke: Venus 188

In both cases, the minute counter gears are close to the winding stem, i.e. in the upper part of the picture. The Venus/Valjoux movement has a rather larger minute counter than the Cal. 11.

Thanks for the help of clearing that up, Hartmut! I'll continue my search for the correct part, then. If anyone knows where to look (outside Ebay), please let me know!

Thank you guys, I appreciate the help. I've contacted scotchwatch.com and are currently keeping my fingers and limbs crossed. I need my Chrono-matic back, I'm not the same man without it.

Hi There,

I stumbled upon your thread. Coincidentally, I'm on the hunt for Hamilton chrono matic, cal 11 one large black second hand and white small hand for the 3 o'clock sub dial.

If you come across any in your searches, kindly let me know. I'm happy to do the same.

BTW - try Dean at Once upon a time in Virginia. He helped procure a black Hamilton date disc for me.

Cheers,
Nate
