Hello everyone! I've been looking to buy a PP watch recently and have been browsing around the internet. Until today when I came across this PP with Tiffany watch. The seller said the case is new and not original to PP. But I don't know, is the movement really Patek Philippe's? Why is there only the Tiffany logo on it? Please help me to identify it. If it is real, I might consider buying it. Thanks!

I assume you know this was a pocket watch that’s been re-cased up in this modern wristwatch style case.

The movement would not necessarily be signed by Patek as well as Tiffany. It looks perfectly fine - just a shame the original gold case is no longer part of it.

Thank you for the detailed information. I also think it's a shame that the original case it came with is not available. So I am torn as to whether it is worth spending 2000 euros on this watch.

I would pass - almost all of the intrinsic value in the watch is lost at this point. You're just buying a weird, old, franken-watch at this point. Value would essentially be limited to parts.

Back in the 19th century Tiffany sold Patek pocket watches in the U.S. with an exclusive contract. At least for some PP only sent movements and maybe dials to USA and Tiffany cased them. Movements were not necessarily stamped Patek.

Then Tiffany started a factory in Switzerland for movements but shut it down shortly thereafter and sold the premises to Patek.

So, quite some common history there.

I have seen Tiffany pocket watches with PP archive extracts saying “movement only”. I would think such pieces don’t lose so much value in a marriage watch.

This is a Patek Ca 1886 movement which in itself does have value, unfortunately I am in a similar situation where I acquired a Patek for Baily Banks Biddle of Philadelphia from an estate with original lacquered box. Unfortunately the case itself is missing. My guess is the original owner was really ignorant. Realized the case was 18K gold, stripped the case from the watch and sold it at market value.
Yes I do realize this is an old post, just had to share.

If only you knew just how many gold watches of all sorts (Rolex and PP a plenty) were broken up in the 70’s and 80’s when gold was at a high. This is a very common thing.

Agree 100%. I would pass on this one unless it was discounted heavily.
