Pelagos date wheel misalignment issue

Hi all,

Just flagging this to future Pelly owners as something to watch out for (no pun intended). I recently (finally) pulled the trigger on a black Pelly for my 40th. Amazing watch and the watch for me, after lots of research.

Got it home and gave it a close inspection only to notice the date wheel was mis-aligned with them sitting too high in the window and not straight, which was noticeable on some numbers more than others. Check out pic below with the 15...

I've since returned it to my AD who said their whole batch was the same and they'd have to return mine with the rest to Rolex. It's now been returned back to me, fixed. They haven't said what they did but the Rolex document that came with it lists a replacement part, so i'm guessing the date wheel was incorrectly stamped and it has been replaced.

Just thought I'd flag this as have not seen this issue before (on any watch). I think it stands out more on the Pelly as the date window is white within a black dial, well as my previous daily wearer (Omega 2254) has a black date window in a black dial, which blends in more (and the Omega's date is perfect).

I now spend too long staring at the Pelly's date wheel, paranoid it's still not aligned but hopefully this will pass. Have also become obsessed with the hour marker seeming to be ahead of the minutes in-between hours! (it's fine on the hours) Is anyone else this obsessive??

Congrats on the Pelagos, you just got unlucky and its fixed. You wont get an issue again. I would be paying extra attention to that date wheel now though but as someone else said here its likely to be a hiccup in the factory that affected a batch of them. May have been the date wheel off another tudor that got put in the Pelagos. The fact it was sorted so quickly indicates they spotted the problem. Enjoy your Pelagos

My eta is a minute or so early, but my in house was 5 mins late, that to me is unacceptable as it just shows poor assembly of the hand stack. It came back from rsc changing 2 min 40 sec after midnight, and I'm fine with that, the minute hand is a tad misaligned now but that's the risk you take when humans touch things.

I almost feel rolex and tudor are experiencing growing pains, the new volume of sales might be affecting the quality of assembly. Just a thought.

That's the drawback of dates that change instantly. You notice right away if it's not exactly at midnight.

Unless adjusted perfectly, a date that takes 30 minutes or so to change over is actually more reliable to read correctly than one that changes instanttly if you think about it. If it's off by a few minutes either way, a slowly changing date is clearly in the process of changing, so you can tell what the actual date is by looking at the time. One that changes instantly a minute too early or a minute too late is actually showing the wrong date for a minute.

This is very true, sad for me as I really enjoy the instant change, but you are very right, one that shows that its in the process of changing is more reliable than an incorrectly adjusted instant change. When mine was taking in excess of 5 minutes past midnight to change I would actually second guess the date, and I work over night on occasion so it was actually annoying to need my phone to figure out what day I was on.
The price of progress hah.

I had the same issue one day after buying my LDH from my AD, and whats crazier I just got the new GMT Pepsi and the date wheel is wrong too!! I was in another AD a month ago looking at a brand new YM and the date wheel was not working and the sales lady had to send it back. Its crazy that I have seen this on three watches in the last year. I have never seen this in the last 10 years other than a 1680 I had. Crazy!!

To the OP, glad you got your Pelagos back and it's in working condition. The Pelagos is a GREAT watch, wear it in good health. I'm usually either asleep by midnight or out and about, Ive never watched to see any of my date windows change. When I wake up or look at my wrist it has the correct date and that's all I care about.
