Have a guest at our resort who was sporting a very unusual watch. I was thinking Ulysse Nardin initially, but in the end, gave in to my curiosity and asked to have a look. Was a brand I had never heard of - Pierre Kunz. Apparently designed by Harry Winston.

What an absolute stunner it is! It could actually be The One! Love the color, the strap, the proportions... i mean, look at it!! Drooool.

I've only found a UK-based online price for it, or around 6000 quid. Anyone seen these for sale in other parts of the world?

Saw the list - most of them dont really sell online.[/quote]

You did not ask that, at least not explicitly.

Yes. I am aware that working in the industry means that you dont automatically fall in love with Kunz watches. So let me be explicit here: I was/am curious as to why Watchbreath didnt like their watches. Given that he may have worked in the industry, I was/am wondering this was based on any insider knowledge in terms of reliability, movements, etc. or just a matter of personal taste.

Tough crowd here today. :)

Speaking on niche clienteles - is it just an expensive jewellery brand, a higher-end version of Baume & Mercier, or does it have any horological pretensions behind the designer-driven brand?

As you can tell, I dont know much about them, so curious to learn more.

The only thing I find interesting about Harry Winston timepieces are their Opus timepieces, and only because they tend to feature interesting highly complex methods of displaying time in a new and innovative fashion.

As for the Pierre Kunz, I don't see anything about the watch that justifies the price. Sure, it has a big date and a retrograde seconds, but I don't think it's a timepiece that you will be comfortable wearing ten or twenty years from now.

Interesting thread as I've been looking into Pierre Kunz. The interaction between vkalia and Watchbreath is an added bonus. ;)

I was interested in the 403 chronograph with its retrograde displays. However, this video has convinced me that it is best worth avoiding.

Aside from the the issue with the clasp and missing chronograph pusher, it just seems too chunky. The big flat crystal doesn't excuse a high end look either IMHO.

I WOULD like to get a look at the Insanity model though. Even if these are just interesting complications on top of a 2892, you don't see too many watches that can do this.
