Both are the later engraved reahut models and both are pre-owned and for sale by a top end (unauthorized) Rolex dealer that I have done business with before. Condition on both are listed as pristine. Both come with genuine Rolex box, papers, book, and 3 year warranty.

Explorer ll 16570- $ 7,850. White dial on Stainless Oyster. Bezel has small nick but dealer has offered to replace with OEM Rolex bezel for $150.00. Owner of business claims from future value and investment standpoint this is my best choice. Estimated 2007 year of production.

Yacht Master 16622-$9,950. Platinum dial and bezel on Stainless Oyster. Estimated 2008 year of production.

From a purely aesthetic point of view I like them both but I’m leaning toward the Yacht Master. Obviously there a significant difference in cost between the two and I’m having a hard time deciding. Any thoughts guys? Thanks in advance.

If you prefer the Yacht-Master, get the Yacht-Master!

However, $10k USD seems extremely high for the 16622 Yacht-Master. Extremely high. Maybe that's where prices are at now though, they seem to go up every day. $8k USD for a 16570 also seems very high.

Wow.. 3 votes for the Explorer right off the bat. He (the owner) also seemed to be pushing me towards the Explorer II even tho its the lesser priced of my two options. He was pretty confident about the value of Explorder going up in next 5 years as opposed to the YM. Keep the thoughts coming guys. I want to pull the trigger today. Thanks a million.

^^^ see?

That's why asking us here on WUS is a bad idea. This is because you were leaning towards a Yachtmaster but most of us suggested Explorer II and now you're wavering.

Yes, the Explorer II is a Rolex staple and is in higher demand than a Yachtmaster. Everything the unauthorised dealer said is true.

But if you listen to us, you're going to buy the watch you didn't fancy but what the collective here told you to buy. Would you be happy?

For me, I would buy the Explorer II as well.

Coffee drinker...yes agree on price. I have found them both for lesser price from other dealers however as a new watch collector my son has advised me to buy the seller and not the watch when buying preowned. This dealer has an extremely good reputation and thoroughly checks and services (if needed) every watch he sells. That’s important to me.

Which makes you smile more when you look at it 80x per day on your wrist? Sounds like, as michaelB25 said, you’ve answered your own question.

My wife once asked a friend asked what she would choose. She went with her friend’s choice ... not her own. Has never been totally happy. I know it feels better when others agree with your choice, but we’ll not be the ones looking at it 80x per day. Your wrist, your watch, your choice.

Good luck! And let us know which one you chose.

Ok thanks for all replies. After staring at pictures of both and spending most of day doing research on them I decided on the Explorer II. (with 3186 movement). That white dial with white black markers could not be ignored. I’ve always had weak spot for “panda” look (although I know the watch is nicknamed Polar). Actually, my last 3 cars have all been white with black trim. This watch carries on my affinity for that look and Im certain I made right choice. This thread helps confirm it so thanks to all that responded.👍🏻

As far as price, did I pay too much? Maybe. Probably. Could I have bought new for a few thousand more? Yes, but likely with one or two year wait and possibly paying over MSRP since I do not have a “relationship“ with an AD. However, seller is top notch, stands behind his watches, and agreed to replace bezel at no charge. Also 3 year warranty. Most are two. Thanks again for members comments.

Congrats on the "new" watch. I am sure you will get years out of it.

I would have picked the YM

I know the Explorer II is an iconic watch but I find that while I think it looks great in pics, I have also discovered that I really don't like it in person. It just looks ho-hum to me
