Short story, have tried a ton of dive watches from most of the major brands and nearly all of the boutique brands. Have been buying, selling, and flipping a ton. I go back and forth between paying a lot ($2-3k) or a little ($100) and have found that somewhere in the middle suits me best. Too little and I don't wear it cause it feels simple or cheap, too much and I get apprehensive about wearing it frequently. Also have had a bit of a renaissance of taste. I'm no longer stuck on dive watches only, looking to broaden the collection a bit, which leads me to my request.

I want a watch and need help finding it. I bought this Wenger when I first started, I still love the general look, but don't like the cheapness, the quartz, the mineral crystal, or the size (39mm). I want something that has this look, kind of a dressy pilot GMT, with the following must haves: automatic, sapphire, GMT, and roughly 41-43mm size. No specific budget, but want to hit that sweet spot so that I will actually enjoy it: so say $500-$1500. New or used. Don't know what fits the bill, so I am asking you to please help me find it. Thanks!

That looks like plenty of good choices to me.

Sinn 856.

It's a great watch but it's 40mm, and the 856 UTC (GMT) is a little above his desired range. That said, it's as bulletproof as any mechanical watch, which somewhat eases the apprehension about wearing it. If you can go 40mm and bump up the range a bit you've got a winner.

You're correct, but I found that the 856 wears a little bigger due to the fact that it has a large dial and relatively small bezel. And, he did say "no specific budget" and they can be found preowned for a good price, especially the non-utc version.

Damn... I may need to pick up another one at some point. I had 2 856-UTC's and sold them both, great watches.

LJUSMC / daschlag,
I have actually considered the 856 UTC before, but kept getting hung up on the 40mm size. My two current everyday watches are 43mm and 47mm and I have tried a number of 39-40mm watches, even ones with relatively no bezel (all dial due to the steep angle and narrow width of the bezel), but I have always flipped them relatively quickly due to the size. At the end of the day, I just prefer larger watches. Bad thing about that is, the style I am looking for comes in a ton of options if I were to go 40mm with IWC's Mark VII being the nicest to me, however it is only 41mm and is not a GMT. Can't seem to find that pilot GMT with the Mark VII look in or around 44mm. But I imagine that there are some I am just not thinking of.

Have you looked at the 857 UTC? Same watch, larger case, rotating bezel.

Not mine:

Squirrelly, thanks for the suggestion, nice looking watch but seems a bit dressy for my taste. Especially with the slender hands. Really looking for something a bit more pilot-like (so to speak).

Jason R, like C Ward (I have a C60 already), and while I like the C11 it still comes off like a dive watch (my opinion), and I am really trying to find a GMT.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Gonna spend some time google searching, will let you know if I find anything.
