Hi, does anyone know what the difference is between the prw-3100y-3 and the prw-3100g-3 other than the g coming with a cloth band?

No difference other than the band, packaging and price. Standard band adaptors are available for the PRW-3000/3100 case design (both are exactly the same dimensions, and the case is also shared by the PRG-300/330), so you can always add "normal" bands to any of them, though the adaptors are relatively expensive and are only available in a few colors.
