I try to wind my O&W 2801 mechanical carefully every day. That is, I stop when the crown seems to give a slight resistance. About a month ago while winding I heard a click sound, but there was no apparent damage. Just recently the same click sound occurred while winding. This time the stem and crown came loose. Am I improperly winding the watch? Can you overwind a mechanical watch? Any information is appreciated.

Yes, if you hit the stop too hard, it will latch up. A gentle whack on the
palm will usually get it going again. If not, take it in and be prepared to
write a check.
