I see Proxima watches here only once in a while,
And everyone who owns one seems to have nothing but praise for them.

So why is it not as popular as some of the other copy makers?
And doubly so, when Proxima actually has some unique designs of it own?
And a catchy, pronounceable name to boot?

Here's coupla theirs:

Why ask why ?
You like them. It’s your money. That’s all that really matters.

I don’t care what people think about my watches or anything I spend my money on.

It can play to your advantage that they aren’t as popular, if indeed they aren’t, to help the prices from going up.

No clue how you are able to gauge and compare popularity levels of these brands and state it as if it is a fact though.

I like proxima but they have more color options than style options. You can only own so many mm300, I really would like to see proxima come out with some more stuff. They have made some cool pieces, the monobloc case that has different removable "shrouds" so you can have a mm300 or turtle, its not practical but cool and orginal.

Why they don't get seen as much, because steel dive is half the price, and san martin although has gone up in price they were still cheaper for awhile and released alot more models. Proxima needs to promote and have better pricing especially during the sales.

I picked this one up a year or 2 ago for like 180 not a bad price at all I think.

My guess is that, manufacturers like SM and Pagani make "safe" watches that are just basically "homages", whereas this company tries to do something different, which makes it less interesting somehow?
I wonder if they are not all owned by the same owner.
Not just them but all the others too: Steeldive, Helmdllr, etc etc

I don't think they are as popular because they stray from the copy-design playbook, too far afield. For all the cries of homage haterz saying these companies should do something different, probably actual sales tells a different story... as does interest around here.

I've checked before, and at least the stores have their business licenses registered to cities that are very far apart...equivalent of multiple states apart. They may use the same factories / manufacturers but on paper they are different companies.

Speaking for myself, I was/ am still interested in trying one or two.
Other than their MM300 copies, they do seem to have some nice (original?) designs that I have not seen before.
(Unless they are copies of even more obscure originals.)

It is a fact that those (few) who have Proxima - and it always seems to be the MM300 copy -- do sing their praises.

San Martin's prices dulled my sensitivity? Maybe.
Cuz, now I am thinking, "Aw, $230 is not SO bad." But then, SM have always been pretty high quality, trouble-free for me.

Anyway, aftermarket cases now available at Ali X are really well-made. Tight bezels, domed sapphire, steel inserts, etc. That I can set my own bezel insert practically eliminates the alignment issue when I assemble them, since those cases don't have chapter rings either.

So, while I would consider 230 to acceptable for a fully assembled NH driven watch, I certainly won't tolerate any sort of imprecision bs, such as misalignment, loose bezel, etc.

I do like the Uni Diver range. Who wouldn't want a lumed unicorn logo and mix of lume on the indices

But don't know if I'm manly enough to rock the blush dial :p

Ooph!
I forgot: they have that weird BRONY logo.
What in the actual fudge is that????
No, just no.

I also bought the 62 ormas...the braclet on both in general aren't great, not bad, they could use a refresh. The endlinks are well made solid, but the rest of the bracelet is kind of just "good enough". The bracelet is the same one on some of the steeldive sumo, just different endlinks.

They honestly put all the money into the head, but if san martin is charging the same then I don't see why proxima couldn't do a better braclet.

Oh my sweet summer Chronopolis, what do you know about price escalation?

Price escalation is for the uncertain market, when would-be MoonSwatch buyers are piled a hundred feet deep.

Price escalation is for the long "correction" when fair market value hides for years and chidlren are born and live and die, all watchless.

That is the time for price escalation, my little Chronopolis, when the price hikers move through through the ads.

Thousands of years ago, there came a night that lasted a generation. Hans Wilsdorf froze to death in his castle, same as whoever owned Invicta before the scammers took over, and women smothered their babies rather than see them grow up to wear Michael Kors. And wept, and felt the francs freeze in their purses . . .

So is this the sort of story that you like?

In that darkness, the Instagrammers came for the first time. They swept through cities and kingdoms, posting their dead faces, hunting for likes from pale incels, big with pounds.

Yeah, maybe I get carried away with my side fetish for bad historical fiction. 🤣

I discovered that Proxima makes a “climbing watch” (Rolex Explorer style) with a date window. I know that the appeal of the Explorer style is its simplicity and symmetry, but, darn it, date windows are useful.

I’ve been looking for this specific combination ever since buying a beautiful Islander Manhasset earlier this year. The Manhasset has been my most worn watch. It’s kind of a dressed-up Explorer, with less lume: Oysterdate 6466 hands (lance hands with a line of lume)

, and unlumed stick indices. I can absolutely see wearing the Manhasset every day for years, but I miss having a date window, and the lance hands really aren’t easy to read in low light. Sometimes the lume helps, but there isn’t much of it.

I don’t know if any of their company has solved the Explorer-with-Date problem in this way…personally I think it’s a really cool answer.

They moved the big Arabic indices from 3 and 9 to 2 and 10, making room for a date window at 3. The date window is boldly framed and polished. It’s certainly not as symmetrical as a classic Explorer, but the weight of the 10 somewhat balanced the combined weight of the 3 and the date window with its white wheel.

They call it the PX1690-2610, which makes sense because they do make a traditional Explorer clone three-hander, the PX1690-369.

I reached out through AliExpress and asked how they’d feel about making with different hands. Sure, they said, which hands? I made a snap decision: hit me with the snowflake hands from your PX1704 (a BB36 sort of thing, which for some reason only comes with a blue dial).

And…I love it.

The lume color on the hands isn’t a perfect match for the indices, which is to be expected, given my swap. It worked out well: the hands are whiter, which emphasizes them nicely. Lume performance is excellent as well.
