More seriously, I agree that this is only a publicity stunt (and it works, we are discussing his gesture here at Watchuseek). He made sure the cameras were there before handling over the Blancpain.

Kudos to Blancpain - for $3,000 or $4,000 (their cost) they got $100,000 worth of advertising from all the media that picked up this story. (I'm sure they gave him this watch and told him to hand it over to the most sympathetic person he comes across - yes, I am cynical).

It's absurd, though - this watch model is one of the less-expensive Blancpains. Are we to believe that Putin walked into a Blancplain dealer and said - show me the cheapest watch you've got A guy who wears a $60,000 Patek Philippe ;-)
