Hey, but sure if this is the right forum, but if you don’t wear an automatic watch daily can you shake it up vigorously every night or whatever to keep it going? Or is that bad for it?
Thanks
Yes! My little Seiko doesn’t have a hand winding capability, so the only way to wind it is to “shake” it. If I haven’t worn it for a day or two, I’ll do the shake for a min or two while I’m looking for my clothes in the morning or something. My Orient, on the other hand, gets hand wound first, and then I put it on and let the rotor do its thing for the duration of its wrist time; I don’t bother to shake it as a main method of winding it up.
If you don’t plan on wearing it for a while, I’d rather just let it wind down and stop, since that way it’s not putting wear and tear on the gears and such for no good reason. Someone chime in here, I don’t think letting it sit idle like that is harmful to the mainspring?
You can just wind it. Or let it stop and just wind and set when you put it back on. No reason to shake unless you have one of the really cheap Seiko watches that only wind in that way.
Try the bigfoot walk pattern after you do a little wiggle to get the second get started then wear it on your wrist. It will charge up the spring.
