I'm not 100% but I reckon it might be the indicator that the Auto-Illumination is activated (if this model has that). I only say this because it's in the top right next to the light button.

Try holding down the light button (top right) for a few seconds and see if it disappears.

Let us know how you get on.

The (terribly scanned) manual indicates that that is the backlight activated indicator. Meaning when the backlight will flash when the timer counts down or the alarm goes off, as well as the sound.

I believe you need to hold the upper button on the right side down in timekeeping mode for a few seconds to deactivate it. Oops, no top right button, I see.

EDIT: In looking at the manual again, I believe it is the "LIGHT" button you need to press for 3 seconds to turn it on and off (in timekeeping mode). The big one at the bottom middle, but you say that doesn't work?

Ha, I see, that "LIGHT/ON-OFF" text in the upper right corner is pointing at the line on the screen and not indicating a button.
