I'm sure this question has already been answered somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

I have read that you can "quick set" the date on a Valjoux 7734 by alternating between the 10 and 2 o'clock markers. Is this dangerous for the movement? Is there a better way to do it?
Thanks for your input!

It is not really "dangerous" to the movement in terms of something breaking, but there is a little more wear, particularly on the cannon pinion. When that wears out, the movement works but the main hands don't move. In which case, the watchmaker can tighten it a little. The bottom line is that I wouldn't worry all that much.
