Folks, just a quick note as I do not have the time for more.

I have been in Haiti since last Wednesday. We were teh first team on the ground which is not rare or out of the ordinary (I was fully packed 3 hours after the earthquake hit and was ready to roll).

I'm still here, in Port-Au-Prince, and took a minute to write to say that I am ok as is my team. In spite of strong aftershocks, constant and unending work, little rest and little food (no time to eat).

This time, as when I responded to the Indonesia Earthquake, I took my Stromtrooper Mudman. I really want to start deploying with a Gulfman, but I reached for the Mudman first (it was closest to my bag as I was frantically packing). Besides, the REAL Gulfman I REALLY want is the G9100-R-4DR which I can't find for under $100. Anyone know of a place that has a good deal on it?

Anyway, so far I have spotted inexpensive quartz being worn by Search and Rescue members such as Columbia branded watches and other no names. Several 5600 G-Shocks, no mudmen (surprised? I am!). Mostly inexpective quartz ones though.

Here's the surprising factor, many, many, many Haitian officials wear Movados and in spite of some manual labor, keep them on.

More info later folks. Keep the folks of Haiti in your minds folks. They need every bit of positive thoughts they can get.

Thanks for reading.

Interesting post, and God bless you for going there to help and being one of the first. What exactly is the stormtrooper mudman? I can't picture it...do you have a model no.? I'd like to get a mudman, but not sure what kind. Best wishes.

Hi Sose,

You are doing a great job! Haiti is constant on the news also here. Students at our school have started a benefit action at the begin of this week to raise funds to help the people of Haiti. They sell pancakes and now also special drinks.

Keep up your good job!

Cheers,

Sjors

Good luck Sose,

What a surreal experience it must be on the ground in Haiti. The devastation looks overwhelming but I imagine being there helping must feel pretty good.

Respectfully,
Angus

Thank you Sjors.

Angus, surreal doesn't even cut it. I've seen some things I don't think I'll ever want to share and others that I definitely want to such as witnessing a live rescue.
A couple of nights ago I witnessed a live rescue of 2 Haitians trapped under the rubble. Such a courageous act from the Urban Search and Rescue teams (USAR) is incredible. INCREDIBLE. I don't think I could ever find better words to describe that experience.

Anyway, more later folks. Now I am about to head out for some more.

Best wishes and stay safe. I worked rescue/recovery at ground zero right after September 11th attacks. . I understand what you're going through.
P.S. I wore my Seiko 007 diver there.

Sose, you sure don't post very often, but when you do it carries an impact. Where would the world be if there weren't people like you to go and assist at a moments notice when such devastating occurs? Stay safe and try to get a little shut eye and eat some vittles.

First and foremost -- thank you for your service. To your team and all the teams from all over the world, I cannot imagine more noble and more important work.

Thanks also for your post. While reading about Haiti, I kept a bit of a lookout in the back of my mind for pics of search and rescue folks -- with an eye to the watches they were wearing. I hadn't found many photos. So, your post is interesting and much appreciated by we watch lunatics.

There is an old proverb that has been translated in a number of ways. The more standard, if less poetic, translation reads: "whoever preserves the life of a single human being ... it is as if he had preserved an entire world". So, thank you again for doing just that.

Cheers to you Sose for making a difference. Please take care of yourself if you're in the collapsed buildings.

Sose,
What do you mean by "Columbia branded watches"? I've never heard of these type of watches before. What is a "Columbia branded watch"?
Columbia is an outdoor goods company (http://www.columbia.com/). Mostly known for their clothing and outerwear but they have inexpensive watches too.

God bless you guys out there. I would have liked to go down there and help if I wasn't just a teenager, skinny built, and my French wasn't so lacking. HaHa
