Today's arrival is a Raketa Kopernicus with 'sun and moon' hands.

The movement is a Raketa 2609HA

bidfun-db Raketa_2609HA: Raketa 2609HA

From what I gather from the guys in the Russian forum, this example is not one of the early ones (1967) but dates from the 1990's. This is because the dial says (in Russian) 'made in Russia' - not CCCP (USSR) and this version of the movement is a later one.

So not very vintage; but nice and clean, a bit different, and keeping time.

Before the downfall of Soviet Russia all movements were marked CCCP. You will still find some of these movements in later watches, but the dial will usually say сделано в России.

Very interesting watch Marrick congratulations.

Thank you both. BTW, apparently these were made in a variety of dial designs - lots of scope for future purchases.:-d

That's a very nice watch but what is the significance of the
butterfly on the face of the moon? surely a designer wouldn't
put thet there on a whim.

I really don't know. Apparently, the original issue - according to the guys in the Russian forum - was something to do with an anniversary to do with Copernicus/Kopernicus. But i don't know. From Seele in the Russian forum: "I suspect Raketa never really named their watches, but the nicknames given to them by owners became more understandable, so they sort of stuck. Easier to call this one Kopernick, same goes for Azimuth, Polar Explorer, etc."

Maybe the butterfly was put on to appeal to female buyers as watch sizes got bigger.

Cheers. For the record, I paid £21.66 ($33) - which I thought was OK.;-)
