RE: What type of paint to use to paint dials.

Hi guys.

This is my first post although I have been lurking around in WUS for over 4-5 months already.

Well, i registered to post this question because its holidays for me and I wanted to start on a new project. However, I am not sure which section this post should go and I hope the mods can help me.

Well, I have been inspired by this post and want to do my own custom dial.

An example taken from the link above is as below:

I am fine with the removal of the dial and all but, the question is what type of paint should I use?

It has to
  • Stay on and not flake off even in strong sunlight
  • Preferably be slighly moisture resistant
  • Does not discolorise quickly under sunlight

Are you going to use pad printing ? If so: Coates offers a lot of colours (not for private customers I am afraid).

Hm I think I might go with Gunze Sangyo series of paints, as they are available locally.

Can apply a Metal Primer which prevents it from flaking then apply lacquer based Gunze Sangyo series paint. Finally coat over with UV protective top coat.

All seems good but problem is:
  1. Will it be too thick? Will be applying on a Marina Milirate PAM homage.
  2. Are the products as good as they claim..
