Being a Dexter fan and a watch freek I was asking myshelf what watch Dexter in wearing in the show. Many people got it right about the brand TIMEX and the year seem right 1973 (could be from 1970 to 1974). But all were wrong about the model.
Dexter watch is and Electronic Timex ± 1973 with a Speidel Twist-O-Flex band.

There is a lot of those watch on eBay to buy...but almost all come with the Day/calender dial, as of the one from dexter is a NO-date pale gold dial, silver case.
It has a dome acrylic crytal and use a standard Timex type "A" battery..

The watch itshelf run like a mechanical movement and you hear the ticking, but it"s electric to run....very special to hear running with a loud mechanical ticking.

For those who did not see the pictures taken from the show, i have included a few for you to see and also somes picture of my actual watch on this post. Enjoy

Love those 60-70's Timex Electrics! That's a nice example you have there, Alienivan.:-! I never heard of Dexter until I read your post, so I saw a cool watch and learned something. Win.

As I recall, Dexter is a show about a medical examiner who tracks down killers and kills them himself. I'm told I'd love it, but there is a fear it will awaken something in me.

Cripes! How much does that Timex look like my Omega F300hz? (c1972). The case, domed plexi, even the dial to a degree

Thanks for posted this topic, huge Dexter fan right here :-!

After looking at your watch i can say that my Timex is probably a 1973-1974, since Timex and other (cheaper) brand always copy what the other one were doing (they still do) and this Electronic stuff only happen for a very short period of time between mechanical movement and the quartz era witch included the LED (five year) and after the LCD, from where mechanical movement almost die in time until recently making a comeback.

Thanks for the picture

Re: Real Dexter Writwatch discover

I was always curious about this as well. We have seen threads in the past taking guesses, and I always thought it looked like an old Omega. Clearly I was wrong. Can't wait for the new season to start again. Sadly it is still aways away. I will have to start watching previous seasons I guess. Thanks for the info.

Re: Real Dexter Writwatch discover

Well, this thread finally pushed me over the edge. I'm only three episodes into Dexter, but I already love it. I can identify wiu Dexter's sociopathy (fitting many of the symptoms of sociopath myself) and his sense of justice. And his sister is really hot. She's got this Olivia Wilde meets Liz Vassey thing going on. I'm crushing.

It is a very addicting show, not too much episodes per season makes the story telling tight. I don't want to spoil anything so I just say it gets even better.

Oh yes, Jennifer Carpenter is hot. She was actually married to Michael C. Hall, they have divorced now.

Re: Real Dexter Writwatch discover

On a more chilling note, Jennifer Carpenter is the freaky lady in the movie "The exorcis of Amelie Rose".....note so hot in that one.

On the Dexter side, you can actualy see the father of Dexter wearing the watch in many episode when they do the flash back.

I did notice that. So while he may not be able to empathize with people, there is a feeling of sentimentality towards the watch and, by extension, his father. Very interesting character indeed.

I created an account on this website for the sole purpose of contributing to this thread because I'm very interested in getting to the bottom of this. To start off, I am an extremely avid Dexter fan, and a watch enthusiast. In several episodes I briefly noticed Dexter's watch, and figured it was worth researching. Before I knew it, I had spent hours upon hours over the course of the last few weeks looking for it. Many people from different sources advised that it is the Timex Automatic 1973, however there are several noticeable distinctions between it and Dexter's watch such as the raised bezel around the face (as shown in the link). I'd like to thank you for finally assisting me in getting to the bottom of this, and I'm just about to start digging through eBay to find this watch, however the link above also brought about a concern. If you look closely at the hands, you will see that they are actually half silver and half black, opposed to being black with a silver border. Could that just be due to a different version/year of the watch, or have we hit another dead end?

There is one on eBay right for sale with a leather band, aution up for the next 9 days or something, $21 bidding price, but the pictures show a watch in a not so prestine condition.
You are right about the hands, but the picture capture from the show is blur in the center, so at this point I don not know if the hand are different or the image give a false impresion, will try to find other (better & closer) picture on my Dexter Bluray colection.
Thanks for working with us Dexter fan.

Yeah. I just took a quick peek and I saw the one that you are talking about, which is the same exact model as yours. I also saw one that was very similar to your watch, however not the same. It had a silver stretch band, and is under the name "1970s Timex Electric". It has some large closeup shots like the one you found and is in just as bad of condition. I think I'm going to wait until I find one in better condition.

I've just finished the latest season and whenever I watch Dexter I've always wondered what watch he's wearing. This solves the mystery but somehow I feel there was more to it

Going off topic, I believe Maria wears a Cartier, Quinn wears a gold Rolex, Angel a Ventura, and Deb wears a G-shock of some sort. My favorite dialog comes in season five, when Dexter said "oh nice watch." to which the other party responded (not to spoil anything) "Thanks, it's water resistant to 100 meters, don't know why I would ever need that." I don't believe we ever saw his watch up close though.

To all Dexter Fan...i was wrong about the Real Dexter watch. It is not a Timex Electronic 1973. After reviewing other pictures that surface on the internet, the writing on the face of the watch do not say Timex. Cannot say more then that at this point other then to post the picture that show it's not my Timex. :-s
Other who reply to pointed out that my Timex had hour and minute hand that had black line and that the one of Dexter only had portion of black marker on the hand. that also turn out to be right.
Will continue my quest and kept you posted Dexter fan
Yeah. I had the suspicion that there was more to it too. I saw this picture recently as well, before having seen your post with the picture. I don't know of any Timexes that have that much writing on the face, so I think we've hit a dead end with Timex. It would be extremely helpful if anyone who has any idea at all what brand his watch could be would join the thread!

Edit: I'd also like to point out that it appears that his watch has black stripes on the hour markers, and more of a stainless silver appearance to all of the silver on the watch in general.

That watch has been driving me crazy for years! I LOVE that show, have watched every episode, and I ALWAYS try and get a good shot of his watch. I've even used my DVR to pause it during a semi-wrist shot, and I've not been able to identify it. My best guess was that it was a vintage Omega of some sort, but that Timex does indeed look close...There's gotta be a way to find out what it is for sure.

Re: Real Dexter Writwatch discover

I'm only just about through with season 2. I'm dawdling now, to be honest, because I don't want to finish it. Only seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix.

Re: Real Dexter Writwatch discover

Good day to all Dexter fan, it is been a while since i kept that information regarding the Real Dexter watch. After much thinking and believing that it is only fair for the person who realy found the real Dexter watch to be known. I decided to annonce that the Real Dexter Watch was discover some time ago by a member of this forum call the "Dark Passenger".

He is the most devoted Dexter fan there is and work very hard to find out what was the Real Dexter watch.

Thanks to him (and him only) we now know it is a.........Vintage 1960's WALTHAM SelfWinding 25 Jewels. (Also known as a Physician watch).

It is NOW time that the 'Dark Passenger' can honestly claim his title as the one and only who realy found the Real Dexter Watch. Congratulation DARK PASSENGER!

By respect for him i will not post a picture of his personal watch. But given the fact that you all know now what is the Real Dexter watch i will leave to all of you the fun the find picture of that watch.

If for some reason some of you would doubt this claim....well i was ready to accept the fact that my Timex was not the one, so beleive me the facts are right this time.

Re: Real Dexter Writwatch discover

Thanks a lot for the kind words Ivan, I really appreciate it. If not for a contact I have in the wardrobe department, I would have never found out myself. She kindly told me the brand name and the rest fell into place by searching Google for a few hours for a single image I could find.

I PMed AlienIvan (post #4, page 2) to tell him the watch info so no one else would spend their money on the wrong watch. I also wanted the info kept private off the boards to avoid price inflation and hoarding. Not sure if anyone here knows of the Alysa "Ice Truck Killer" Doll, but after the discovery of what the real doll was, the price skyrocketed. There were people buying them all up low and selling way high.

For any Dexter fans interested, here is a video of my Dexter Collection. Hope you all enjoy the video, and thanks again AlienIvan. Good luck in your watch searches everyone.

Dark Passenger, if I run into you again on the internet I'm going to be convinced that Dexter is a higher power.
