Recommended a Tudor over Rolex

3521 Views 72 Replies 47 Participants Last post by  big_slacker
My physical therapist noticed I was as wearing a Rolex today. He told me that his mother owned two and his goal was to own a Rolex.

After discussing Rolex, AP, PP, etc., designs and pricing, I recommended looking into a Tudor.

Once I told him that Tudor is manufactured by Rolex, he was very interested.

I’m not a Tudor representative but they do have a lot of options with Rolex backing

I own 2 Tudor- love them both.

No desire for a Rolex.

Rolex is like Ferrari- for people who have too much money and no taste.

Yes, because a BB (pick one of the dozens of iterations of the model) is such a step up in style/taste.

Why couldn't he just steal a Rolex from his Mom ?

* Laughs in 5 digit Sub *

Not to mention it cost me less then than the least expensive BB58 does now. I appreciate both brands FWIW.

Rolex doesn't give you a no-date option with the Jubilee bracelet.

And Tudor does.

Better looking than the Sub, IMHO.

And whilst I really like my Explorer, the Ranger gets more wrist time.

Kind of an unfair generalization. While I could never afford one, Ferrari is one of the few automakers that still design beautiful cars.

They do make a nice watch (Rolex)

I once almost bought a Tudor once. North Flag. Then they discontinued it. :(
Both are great in their own right. Any watch that becomes main stream loses its charm. We all want a possession that has a unique signature, just like we hope we are unique. Reality is that we are all Rolex’s that strive to be a Tudor.
Tudor.... what's there not to like?

For some reason, many people actually detest that hour hand....but I like it, and nearly pulled the trigger on that same watch, about $2800 new from Jomashop couple of years ago....

You should have bought it back then when It was cheap.

On the topic of the "controversial" hands, to me, Rolex has its "Mercedes" hands and now Tudor has the Genie bottle hands - aka snow flake. Same as Seiko Alpenist with the "Cathedral" hands that look like a used condom or Omega with the sword / skeleton / hands.

To me, I appreciate brands like Rolex, Tudor or even Panerai as there is a uniform design language and some level of consistency in how they approach the design of their watches. When I look at the Genie bottle hands, I know it is a Tudor. People who don't like the snowflake hands can buy one of those schizophrenic brands with hands that all over the place and no uniform design language.

You say that like it was an actual in stock watch. 🤡

Both have their own merits and I don't see why they can't belong in the same collection.

I own a Tudor, definitely not a bad option for a start.

Tudor is like a Ford Mustang - for people who want a Ferrari but don’t have the means to buy the real thing.

95% ofTudor’s line up is simply copies of a Rolex. If you’re ok wearing a watch that is nothing more than a cheap copy of the real thing then I can see why you would like them.
