Seriously though, I have the same issue you describe. Frequently check the date on my watch. The number has more transient and varying meaning than Sunday (church day), Saturday (house chores day), etc.

Hi guys, maybe my question so dumb but I've tried to search but can't find the answer, is there any automatic watch out there has the year feature? I mean it can tell what year is it right now, of course it will need to be reset at some point.

Perpetual calendars display the year, not because we so frequently forget but because it’s an impressive feat of engineering. An annual calendar’s program wheel must account for the varying lengths of months and be corrected once annually for February. So how much cooler when a perpetual calendar’s program wheel accounts for all month lengths in a four-year cycle. It still would need replacement at the turn of a century (another leap year variation). But those mechanisms are relatively delicate, not to mention expensive.

I'll glance down at my watch, get the date and my mind temporarily holds the date for that brief moment it's needed, then...POOF...it gets zapped from my memory until it's needed again later in the day. Then, I inevitably have to glance down at my watch again.

This is why my date watches like my Seiko SRPE here on a cheapie leather strap are so clutch.



Anyway, I'm curious to know if anybody else out there has this same little mental struggle.

Same. Outta sight, outta mind. I actually have the same watch as my daily, and when I first got it I wasn't too keen on the day complication, I just wanted the date. Then I lost my job, was unemployed for a loooong time and suddenly that day disc came quite in handy.

The worst time of the year for me is during the first few weeks of January.

Not only do I have a hard time remembering the date, but I almost always mess up and use the prior year instead of the new year. This was particularly embarrassing back when I used to write physical checks and I would write down the prior year on the check.

BTW - I just had to glance down at my watch to get today's date. ;-)

My role requires auditing data from weeks months years in the past and planning for work for the future. Lots of days and dates involved to the point I struggle to remember the current date and at times the day.

For that reason and despite the WIS-hatedom for day/date complications, they’re time savers for me.

Yep...I can never remember the date, so a date function is a nice thing for me to have. Remembering the day of the week isn't a problem. The biggest problem I have with date complications is being able to see the damn things. Getting old sucks.

People often say it isn't hard to remember what day of week it is, but if I'm putting in long work hours (recently worked 12 days in a row), or if I'm on vacation, it's easy to forget what day it is.

Day / Date has been my favorite complication since elementary school, when I noticed a kids' Timex that also showed Day and Date.

Having said all that, my last three watch purchases are time-only, and I am enjoying the clean symmetry of the dials. But I do miss the day/date sometimes and have to wear one of them.

I’ll be the voice of dissent as I’ve stopped setting the dates on my watches that have them. My old mans quartz Seiko is always a couple days off since I rarely wear it.

I know it only take a little longer to set the date after winding them up, but it’s not a feature I personally use. That being said, I love the day/dates even if I don’t use them. I have fond memories of an an old Fortis that had the days in German.

I like day/date, but only for quartz, preferably radio controlled watches. It's enough of a job to set the date and time (taking into account AM/PM) on a mechanical.

I don't know if this is common or not, but I often can't remember the date of the month, which is why all of my watches have a date function. It's common for me to glance down at my watch several times a day to get the date for whatever paperwork or online form I'm filling out that requires a date to be filled in.

When I'm on vacation, it's easy to forget what day it is.

This is one of the best feelings - that's when you know you're enjoying your vacation and not caring about work.

And as another mentioned...I think for me it's all about context and association. Each day has some key activity that helps me remember the day of the week.

Monday = First day of work
Tuesday = Taco Tuesdays
Wednesday = Garbage pickup
Thursday = Physical therapy
Friday = Last day of work
Saturday = Chores/errands
Sunday = Golfing, biking, hiking, etc

This makes it easy to remember the day of the week. Whereas the numerical date has much less consistent ties to an event or activity.

Typically I have no problem remembering the DAY of the week because I usually have some other event as an indication. I’ll normally have to check on the DATE.

My work uses both Julian and Gregorian dates, with me spending most of time in Julian date mode. The date feature on my watch is almost a must as it makes switching to Gregorian date very easy. Plus, the date feature helps when dealing with the non-American world where 10-11-2022 is October 11, 2022 vs November 10,2022

This has been a very useful function for me too. All my watches show the date.
Lately, being more in the world of nostalgy I wear vintage Casio-s. So, I see even the day at a glance. Ideal.

I have a similar affliction. Unfortunately for me several of my watches don’t have the date complication, but I glance at them anyway, then fish the phone out of my pocket…

You're not alone, OP! With working from home on some days, children's school schedules and extracurricular activities, a date function is a must for me Mon-Fri.

On the weekends not so much. A day display might be useful after coming back from vacation or for those odd holidays that mess up the weekly work cycle.

I’ve got the same problem with the date. Even though I have it on my computer desktop, often I’m on the move or in the car on a phone call and I hate pulling out my phone and unlocking the screen to see the date. I much prefer the quick glance at my watch for the date.

Even if I glance at the date on my computer desktop or phone, I'll forget it as soon as I start working on something.

Day of the week isn't an issue.
