Remove stem from ETA 251.471

I would like to remove the stem, which is broken, from an ETA 251.471 movement but cannot figure out how.

I have tried putting a pin in the hole with the arrow and pulling out the stem, at each of the three positions, with no success. I have also poked and prodded other parts.

I wouldn't poke and prod. This movement has 4 coils...these don't tolerate poking, prodding, quirts or hotshots very well...

Good luck,

I looked over the doc and I'm still not sure how to take out the stem. Does the note "Handsetting stem position: 2 O’CLOCK !" have significance? Doc did impart importance of not prodding! :-(
For most watch movements, what part actually retains the stem? (hint: engages with the groove on the stem).
Then what action is required to disengage the part from the stem so as to release it?
What is down inside that hole on the plate where the arrow point upon which you are to "push"...and what does that do?

Hi BenchGuy, thank you for the response.

It seems like the "Setting level jumper" is what interacts with the stem and is under the hole with the arrow. However, on my movement I can't detect any give when I push on it (using the aforementioned hole), so I am not sure it is moving anything. I also tried to loosen the adjacent screw with no success. Sorry if I am being dense -- do I need to press it in a certain way, or with a certain setting of the time / stem? I don't want to experiment too much as I may damage the movement (if I haven't already).

Thanks in advance, pk.
DON'T LOOSEN SCREWS...this may make you very sad. Look at inset A on page 6 of the pdf. Look in the hole. You should see the upper end of the set lever post. This is what you push on. This will push the set-lever "down" disengaging it from the groove in the stem. It may help to use a round pusher with a blunt end (which is about the diameter of the hole)...this may keep your pusher from slipping off the post.

From what I understand, what I am supposed to do is what I have been trying the whole time. I wonder if the stem is bent somehow and stuck or something similar (could have happened when the crown broke off -- although the watch and stem are otherwise functioning perfectly). Or maybe I am just missing something else. Well, I am going to give up on this for now. Thank you for the advice, BG.

Unless you have actually seen the top of the post...and know that you are pushing on it (and only on the post)...you don't know what you have been doing (other than poking a pin in a hole and prodding around).
I figured this out... Set time to 2:00, and pull out crown to minute setting (2nd position). Insert presser into arrow hole, and simultaneously pull on crown. Should come right out.

No need to loosen screws to do this.
