Hi all !

Sorry for my rusty English in the first place !

Im looking for a protrak (pathfinder) 1300 or 1500 but unfortunately local dealer cant provide both models with the titanium wrist straps and the one I like more have resin wrist strap.

I had some low end casio watches before and I know that wrist strap will worn and break after 2 years approximately but Im totally uninformed about the high end casio watches like protrek.

Is the resin wrist strap durable, can I use it for eg for a 5 years with the normal usage ?

If it is I would buy resin instead of titanium.

Thank you and best regards !

Welcome to the forum as well. :-!

I have not had long term luck with any resin band watches I have had, if they get frequent use, the band fails. However, the bracelets on my watches just last and last. I also find them more comfortable. I have the PAW-1300T, and really like it. Not to heavy, looks good, not cheap like some of the resin ones do (not saying they are cheap, just do not look as good to me).

My expieriences with resin straps:

If you wear the watch the usual G-Shock straps will last about 3-5 years, then they get brittle and break. This is depending io sweat and agents like fuel or oil which are accelerating the decay of the strap.
If you wear the watch occasionally and store it in a dark dry place, the the strap may last forever (my oldest G with original strap is from ´94).

G-Shock straps are mor durable then the straps of the low budget Casios because of the thickness of the strap. A thicker strap wil take longer to decay then a thin strap because the decay starts at the surface and is moving slowly to the core.

i NEVER have any luck with any Casio resin bands. all break even under low usage. something to do with the humid but hot weather here. dang ! even G-Shock resin body chipped into pieces. that's why i hate resin...

For daily use, as your only watch, I would go with the bracelet. But if you're going to wear it just now and then, or only for outdoors activities, I would go with the resin strap.

In any circumstance, and from normal use, I think you could expect at least 5 years from a resin strap.

There are some sellers on eBay that have both models and ship worldwide. Personally, I would go for a PRW/PAW1300G, the one with nylon strap. :-!

And welcome to the forum.

a protrek (pathfinder) is meant to be an outdoor watch and as such I find a resin strap far more reasonable over a bracelet. of course, if you more of a desk diver guy, then the bracelet might suit your tastes better.

you may also want to consider, that a watch with a resin strap can be easily attached to almost everything, while a bracelet can't. this comes especially in handy if you want to measure the temperature and put the watch onto your backpack for instance. under normal circumstances and regular care a resin strap should last a couple years, and if it eventually breaks, just get a new one. just make sure not to buy a watch where the resin band is a integrated part of the case, but thats with the PAW-1300/1500 series not the case anyway.

Welcome to the forum mate.

If durability is your main concern, then I suggest going for titanium band. It should last forever due to excellent corrosion resistance.

Cheers,

let's look at it the other way

i would recommend the ti bracelet version of 1300(T) and 1500(T) just because the ti bracelet is so well made. solid links, pin and collar system (some people don't like it, but i do), great clasp

the whole bracelet feels very solid and nicely built

G-Shocks and Pathfinders have a higher quality resin then other Casios do so they will last longer. Normal duration in the Northern hemisphere is 5-6 years with daily heavy use, in the tropics this can get reduced to 2 years due to high humidity. Also if you live in very dirty areas of the planet with lots of air pollution from traffic and factory's then that can cause corrosion and shorten resin life. Other factors for the life span of the resin is your own body and diet. Due to our genes and diet we get different acidic levels in our sweat, Vegans have higher acidic levels in their Sweat and as a result tend to smell more sweet but this will also corrode the resin faster.

To maximize the life span of the resin always rinse the watch in clear water after each day of use. This prevents the acid levels to rise up and up also avoid touching your watch to much, leave it alone on the wrist as much as possible this will also reduce wear and tear a swell as resin rot.

If you follow these directions it should be no problems getting a 10 year life span out of the resin even with daily use(5 years in the tropics).

All well and good, but what use is a G-Shock that I have to baby? Give me the bracelet, and go. I find them more comfortable as well, as they automatically mold to the proper shape. None of this boiling business.

My $0.02:-!

If you don't like bracelets (like me), you can buy a pair of bands with your G-shock...so you will have 3 bands that will last about 6-7 years with daily use and too much sweat. Its better to buy extra bands at the time you buy the watch because after some years it will be very difficult (and maybe impossible) to find the exact band...

Hey, and am I the only one from Croatia? Back to the question: I have g-shock with the resin wrist strap for 5 years now, and it looks like new ( but I'm not wearing it every day). I also have protrek prg40 with titanium band, and it it ok. The only problem is that sametimes pulls out hair on my arm. If I would buy a protrek it would be with titanium band, and for g-shock I like the resin better. I'm waiting black mudman to come in stores in my citiy, because they ar out of them at the moment.

Absolutly correct, If your gonna fork over 300-400 clams for any watch, the band better be top dollar too. I wont shell out those kinda bucks on plastic bands. I just got the Pathfinder paw1500t, its so choice, I highly recomend picking one up ...titanium band, will last years longer too.
