If you feel the need... the need for speed, you're going to want to pay special attention to the inaugural Kickstarter campaign from Pitot Watches , a Danish watch brand that specializes in designing timepieces inspired by fighter jets and military aircraft.

Thomas Clausen, the company's owner, CEO, and product developer, is a former aircraft mechanic from the RDAF (Royal Danish Air Force), with a passion for developing accurately detailed pilot's watches and a vision to develop 20 new watches over the next decade, each one inspired by famous fighter jets.

The brand's first series, launching via Kickstarter on May 1st , is dedicated to the legendary F-14 Tomcat (as famously featured in Top Gun) and Jolly Rogers Squadron. An American supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, twin-tail, variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft, the Grumman F-14 Tomcat was the first such US jet fighter with twin tails. First introduced in 1974, these fighter planes were used extensively by the US Navy until they were officially retired in 2006.

Now, fans of the F-14 will have four models to choose from, thanks to Pitot's inaugural collection , each directly inspired by the iconic fighter jets. Each of the four watches, which are 45mm in diameter and feature a 316L stainless steel case, run on the popular Seiko NH35 automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve. They're also water resistant to 10 ATM.

For F-14 fans, clever, aviation-themed touches abound -- check out the big "air intake" look-alike cutouts on the case sides with black PVD steel inserts and Hex screws, and the crown, shaped to look like a jet engine fan. Meanwhile, all four models come with an exhibition caseback featuring a custom-designed rotor in the shape of an F-14 Tomcat (meaning, yes, it "inverts" -- just like the stunt Tom Cruise's Maverick famously pulls in Top Gun).

A fighter jet insignia can be found at 12 o'clock on each of the watches, with model-specific logos at 6 o'clock. Paying homage to the Jolly Rogers fighter squadron VF17/VF84, the Pitot F-14 Jolly Rogers Automatic features the squadron's signature skull and crossbones insignia. Meanwhile, the original Tomcat logo can be found at 6 o'clock on the Pitot F-14 automatic that uses the Tomcat as its design inspiration.

Both the Jolly Rogers and Tomcat-inspired Automatics sport a black-and-white dial with yellow accents, but where the Jolly Rogers comes with a sporty, custom-designed nylon strap, the Tomcat-inspired model features a Horween leather strap with white stitching. It also boasts a yellow-and-black striped seconds hand styled to look like an ejection seat handle, while the Jolly Rogers has a bead-blasted surface, giving it a grey look that imitates the jet's grey paint job.

The Pitot F-14 'Maverick' models draw their design even more directly from 1986's Top Gun, using the flight helmet Cruise's Maverick wears in the iconic film as its colorway. The F-14 Maverick comes in two models, available in blue PVD coating or brushed steel, with a red-white-and-blue nylon strap and dial.

Limited to only 300 pieces per design, Pitot's inaugural F-14 collection is sure to appeal to customers with a love of aviation as both a quality collectors' piece, as well as a hard-working robust everyday watch. Getting any new watch brand off the ground takes significant work, and backing -- by ordering now, you can help ensure this Tomcat-inspired watch line gets permission for take-off, while also receiving significant savings off the future retail price, plus a very cool bonus incentive from Pitot.

Pledge via Kickstarter to get your choice of the four Pitot F-14 designs for only $333 USD, while also locking in a two-year warranty and a lifetime VIP discount good for 50% off all of the brand's future aviation-inspired offerings.
