I have a good mix of dress and sports, but this one would be the first watch on a different level, thus the dilemma.
Given this new piece of information. Here's my updated picks.

  • Tied for #1 ALS (if you prefer dressier watches) or PP (If you prefer sportier watches)
  • Rolex (Previous #1)
  • Moser
As for Moser, I tried the red/burgundy dial before felt it just looked very boring on the wrist and I'm someone who loves complications more than anything. Having said that it may be due to my personal preference for busier dials.

To your point, the red doesn't do it for me. In a strange way, your eye on the Moser shifts from the dial to the tourbillon more so than in any other watch because the Moser usually relies heavily on the stark, fume style or Vantablack, of the dial in non-tourbillon watches. The watch becomes the tourbillon. But the tourbillon is awesome and beautiful.

The Pilot Travel Time looks more "purposeful?" on the wrist. It's a bit busy for sure, but it looks very steampunk and thus unique. It's definitely a pilot watch, but a very Patek one.

Both are striking for sure but in very different ways.

Rolex doesn’t belong here.
Yet it's still "in the lead" at 32 votes vs 26 for the ALS.

BTW, if this ever materializes for me, I'm not basing my decision on this poll. I will look at which one is a relative deal and, as people have mentioned, how these would fit in my collection. But it is interesting to see how this sort of develops.

At least at this time, the poll is proving the pull of Rolex...whether because of design, name recognition, materials, what have you. Rolex is in many ways showing that it is the brand "to beat."

Rolex out of those.

But, I prefer this. Not popular for an AP, so prices are reasonable

If you need a one and done watch, why not go for an awesome brand with a fantastic yet useful complication and with a sports / steel bracelet? JLC perpetual …

I’d also look into Vacheron Overseas. But that’s just me.

From Your listed options ALS beats the others by far IMO. Rolex would be my last choice.
JLC makes fantastic watches for sure, but this one does not do it for me. I find radial perpetual calendars or annual calendars too busy and hard to read. Aperture styles work better in my opinion. I do like the compressor case though. You don't find those in most perpetual calendars.

In terms of the Overseas, I like them a lot too, but the models have so much variance in price based on dial color and function that it was hard to choose one that fit the parameters I set, and that I actually like. For example, I'm not a fan of the silver dial models, and they would all be on the low end of my price range, if not below. The black and blue dial models are all over the place in price, so it was hard to choose. My preference would be blue dial Dual Time or Chrono, but I just didn't feel that strongly about it. Precious metal-wise, I think the rose gold, silver dial, time only version was the only one that fit in my price parameters. Again, silver dial is not my cup of tea.

The 4 models I chose don't have too much of that variance. The Blueberry is just one model. The Patek comes in two basically sizes and two metals, but that is it. I picked the white gold model in 42mm. The Timezone, the same (primarily black dial/white...silver dial, white or yellow gold). I like the white gold/silver or white dial variant. I did not look at the new model as that would blow past my price parameter.

A $30,000 sub defeats the purpose of having a sub. At that point it’s not a sports watch, it just looks like one. The moser is a bit bland for a one watch collection.

that leaves the PP and ALS. Given the options, the PP is more MY style and would be what I would choose but the ALS has the more impressive complications.

I'd "settle" for either the PP or ALS, with the PP barely getting a nod over the ALS due to legibility, Arabic indexes.
But that ALS is amazeballs, would not kick out of bed.
Rolex? Yawn. Although the black n blue scheme is pretty cool, actually. Like for like, I'd be shopping GMT2, tho.
HMC - OMG, such fantastic watches. But probably not an everyday thing for me. Again, would bury my disappointment and "settle" for it, but probably I'd be wearing a sport watch other than this, most of the time.

Yep, this poll says a lot. Wrote my response before voting I was very surprised by it. No wonder Rolex is at its current position.
