Hi all,
Have just received my SD 16660 with a serial number in the 8.09 million (so from around 1983) - a watch I have been very eager to get!
However I a thing which I am not too sure about regarding the bezel - it is turning smooth/gliding, meaning no clicks. I thought the 120 click bezel was introduced in 79/80??

If anyone is able to shine some light on this it would be much appreciated.

Just read the thread Banko posted a link to. Very cool stuff. I wonder why Rolex did away with the Autolock feature? I understand getting rid of the bi-directional functionality, that's a safety issue, even with an Autolock (seems like a perfect series of accidents could bring about a tragedy), but I'd really like a smoothly rotating uni-directional bezel with an Autolock. Seems really trick.

Then again, I guess the thinking was probably that an Autolock bezel was more likely to develop an issue, and was more difficult to fix than a simple spring-loaded ratcheting bezel...

I think that you hit the nail on the head Starter. These are, after all, tool watches.
