What's your taste on Roman Numerals ?

  • Love them

  • If the design is right looks good to me

  • Can take or leave them

  • Not really my thing, but if the watch design is exceptional

  • Try to avoid them

Until recently I never considered Roman Numerals as desirable.
I have had them twice before, on a Cartier Rondo Solo and an Omega Constellation bezel, but kind of "took them with the territory" as those watches have a certain iconic look.

I have preferred plain pips in the first place, or arabic numerals in the second.

This was until I recently started looking at dress watches seriously, and bought probably my most beautiful watch, a Longines Master with roman numerals.
It has the classic clock face type look I was going for, but at the same time is extremely clear and has a level of interest above the watch beauty, which I have never seen before.

For me, this now opens up 2 entirely new genres of watches: 1. Dress watches; 2. Roman Numerals.

So I have made a poll on who actually likes and/or is prepared to have roman numerals, just out of interest

As long as they're legible and go with the watch. I like the Constellations, though I guess some might be annoyed with the lack of IX and III.

The only diving watch I know of with roman numerals is the now discontinued Cartier diver

Some really nice sports watches though, for example: lots from Ulysse Nardin:
