I noticed recently on the Japanese Grand Seiko site that a new Japanese-boutique-exclusive model was listed, the SBGJ235. I could not find any information about this release, so did a little research. It is the same watch as the previous Japanese-boutique-exclusive model SBGJ231, with the exception of the caseback. Both watches feature the hi-beat GMT movement and a beautiful blue Mt. Iwate dial. Below is an image comparing the SBGJ231 caseback (left) and updated SBGJ235 caseback (right). The latter updates the branding to remove the traditional Seiko logo. Note that the older SGBJ231 has the updated GS-only branding on the dial already, so there are no changes there.

The SBJ235 is scheduled to be released in US boutiques this spring, so no longer even a JDM.
Yup that is the main difference.
Demand was too high on just the two Ginza and Osaka premium boutiques.
One of the absolute best current GS, either case back version.
