Seadweller - as hard to get as all the others?

One of the watches I don’t hear about too often is the seadweller. I just saw not one but two in person at a shop. The latest reference one was twotone and one was just steel. The truth is I’ve never once put one on or seen it in person and I’m in love with the watch. It’s big without being bulky, heavy and substantial. Now they were priced through the roof second hand and the guy admitted they had been there for quite some time.

got em thinking, are they as hard to get as every other Rolex? I’ve had an itch for a new one but not sure what I wanted. I do not dress up or where suits and I am an avid sailor and very a mature diver. The size fits my wrist and the toughness is more than I need but I like it.

map any experience buying one recently?

Never seen one at an AD in the UK so I’m gonna say yes.

I saw a SD43 in a Rolex shop before Christmas up here....I'm after a 126660 DSSD but I asked the clerk about it. He said it's spoken for but they like leaving it on display to keep shoppers excited when they come in and see it...gives the impression that this particular AD can get the SS sport models. So I had asked if they could let me know when they got a DSSD in, he said "Sure...not a problem....we'll let you know.", took my name and number. I was kinda surprised judging by some of the stories I've read here and elsewhere about the ridiculous AD games. Anyways, it's been several months and I get monthly updates from them. Not holding my breath, but hey....I could get lucky!

I recently went to a Rolex boutique in manhattan. Happened to have my fiancé and our newly printed save the dates for our wedding in December. Chatted with him. She made quite a few remarks about me wanting a watch again for our wedding. He told he he could most definitely get me a new sub by December to mark the occasion. I too am not holding my breath at all. He did mention though that he felt like most people who come in aren't all that serious just like looking and wasting time ?‍♂ This is my first experience with Rolex so we shall see. After trying on the seadweller for once I think i may go back and tell him I'd rather have that.

You guys are giving me hope. I can't pull off twotone for some reason. I swapped twotone subs with a friend for about a month. I never warmed up. Couldn't wait to get my SS back. That being said for some reason I love my 36mm TT Datejust. I tell everyone who asks about what watch to get to get that. It dressed up and down better than any watch in my collection. I'm also amazed how a little cleaning really brings out the bling in the jubilee and the fluted bezel.

The SD43 is an amazing watch, but too big for some. Coupled with the higher retail price than a Sub, the SD43 seems to be slightly more available than the usual suspects. This is reflected by the more moderate grey market price, as a percentage over retail, than other ss sport Rolex models. The current going rate doesn’t seem to be all that much more than msrp + tax. If you got the wrists for it, go for it.

Just was at my ad earlier this week, they said the subs and gmt's are the hardest to get. I was surprised they also said the yachtmaster's are becoming harder to get and people are frequently calling and asking for them . . . I'm gonna say the sea dweller isn't as hard to get as a sub but more difficult to find than an air king . . . . . . I absolutely love the tt sea dweller BTW

Funny to hear that. I think I'm getting "sub fatigue" and a little sick of all the hype around the daytona and gmt. I love the watches but somehow I hit a breaking point and when I'd usually want the latest and greatest sub I don't care about the new one at all. I always wanted a gmt and now they are just blah. Don't get me wrong. At retail I'll get any in a heartbeat. The whole Rolex situation has turned me away a little bit. The sea-dweller though after seeing it in the steel has got my eye. It's one I would have never considered in the past. Now, the fact that it's not everywhere so it actually seems pretty rare, it's got some cool tech in it. I love the actual design 9; the dial and bezel and the fact that it sounds like I might actually get a hold of one makes it very tempting to go after.

I saw another thread posting this but I really appreciate Rolex for being such a pain to get though. The money I would have spent on an explorer or gmt, or any other stainless model that I wanted I used on a new seamaster I fell in love with. Now I have 5000 left over and I'm looking at used panerai

Just popped into a local AD to let them know I want an SS SD43 before the end of May for a gift. They didn't say no. But they didn't say yes either. I believe they know I'm serious and not an opportunist. Let's see what happens.

I've been on a waiting list for an SD43 from my local AD since May of 2019 with no calls. I go in about every two months to drop in and see what's what. Sill nada. I've since expanded my wish list to a few other pieces. In that time I've bought two Panera's, a tudor, and 3 Omega Speedmaster's ... seems ridiculous to wait for a chance to buy 'any' rolex but here we are. I'm still in line.

I was in to see my AD last week and they said I should have something by June. I did find a two tone SD43 at one of their stores in manhattan but did not like the look of the two tone. I've been offered a deep sea but want the red letter accent from the SD43. Bottom line is if you like bigger watches then an SD43 is the better watch compared to the sub, in my opinion. If you like smaller watches then the sub is a better value (and easier to get according to my AD).

I drove around to some ADs a few weeks ago and put my name on the lists, but for a James Cameron. Now I'm kind of leaning more toward the SD43. I wonder if I need to go back to those ADs and update my wish list. Who am I kidding? The only one who may call me is the one that does a lottery.

I saw one at a Rolex AD sitting on the shelf about 6 months ago. It was a TT. I did think about purchasing it to flip it but i am on the waiting list for the GMT and Explorer II with another AD and i did not want to ruin my chances of getting them if the AD found out i flipped a watch (maybe it is just me being paranoid).😁
