Seagull locations in Shanghai
For Seagull fans in Shanghai.
Yesterday I went on a Seagull mission in Shanghai : I needed to bring a seagull watch for repair under warranty.
As I was looking online for information about the shop location in Shanghai I found an old post here on WUS (https://www.watchuseek.com/f72/sea-gull-shop-shanghai-nanjing-road-504448-3.html) giving an address on Fuzhou lu. So I went there to have a look but when I arrived at the location, there was no Seagull shop there (no more seagull shop in Shanghai?).
So I asked my wife to call the seagull assistance number to ask where can I go to get my watch fixed under warranty. They gave us an address on Nanjing Dong lu (Nanjing East road). It took us some time to find it. It is on the 12[SUP]th[/SUP] floor of a mall building (No.409-459) a short walk west of the metro station. Office number 1210.
It is actually a watchmaker doing repair and services for any brand but they are the official after sales of Seagull in Shanghai. I needed to provide the actual fapiao (Chinese official receipt) to get the warranty working, I don't know if it would work with a seagull watch bought in another country.
As I was also looking for a watchmaker for general services I asked their price for a service on this type of watch (this one is an ST2525), they charge about 450RMB. It will be more expensive for a more complicated watch or a higher level brand.
In pursuit of my research for a watchmaker I went on Huaihai lu near the "Shanghai watch and clock shop" as I heard that there was several over there. There are a lot of them indeed, but all luxury ones that takes all kind of Swiss watches for repair. I asked pricing for a service on a Seagull ST2525 : 800RMB.
Looking for a smaller watchmaker, you know in my mind a watchmaker should be an old guy behind a small counter with some old secondhand watches in a small shop, where I can actually talk to the guy working on the watch.
So I went down the perpendicular street to get out of the main road and here I find a small watchmaker with a small counter with old secondhand watches (just next to the Shanghai watch and clock shop service center). He charges 500 for the service of my watch.
And he tells me : "oh you like Seagulls, did you see the shop in front?"
Here it is! The new Seagull shop in Shanghai is on Yandang lu near Huaihai lu.
As before, the shop has retail prices and they are not willing to bargain much. But it is good to see the watches in real and they have all these beautiful tourbillonsb-).
