Hey guys, I wanted to buy a new watch for my birthday this year and so far has narrow it down to Longines Conquest VHP 36mm (link) or Sinn 556i RS (link). Two completely different watches but with similar functionalities (3 hands + date).

I'm thinking to get a watch around $1000 that will fit daily office wear. Both will fit into this category, although the 556 will look more like a field watch. Sinn also has better water resistant but then again I'm not going to dive or swim with the watch. I think Longines is more practical due to it being quartz, no need to be worn everyday and will keep perfect time whenever you want. The VHP movement is also a nice point in term of uniqueness compared with the automatic ETA that is everywhere :-d.

I want to hear your opinions. What do you guys think about these two watches? Thanks!

I'm turned off by the crown (and crown guard) on the Longines. Plus, I like gears and springs, so the Sinn would be my choice.

I like the size and function of the Longines, but the looks and especially the H-Link bracelet on the Sinn. If it was the Sinn 556A, that would get the nod. Between these two, I think I'd actually give the Longines a shot.

I can't get past the styling of the Longines. The Sinn is much better looking.

I have the VHP. Great watch, excellent finishing, wears very comfy, accuracy out of this world.

My only complaint would be that the bracelet does not have micro adjustments nor half links, so sizing can be somewhat of an experiment, IMHO.

Otherwise it is a really fun watch to own.

I own both a sinn and Longines. I don't think your comparing like watches for the office in one with black dial and one white. Try comparing like colors for your comparison and it will be easier. Or just pick your favorite and enjoy. Definitions of dress, sport, water make little difference today. I'm including a picture of my gold cost vhp so you can see a darker dial to compare with the Sinn. Watch Analog watch Watch accessory Fashion accessory Strap

This is a nice variant. Unfortunately the 36mm "ladies" version only have the white version or MOP and diamonds dial.

I read a lot of people not liking the bracelet of the Longines. Have you changed it to other strap? How versatile is the Longines? I think the 556 is a quite a strap monster.

Its pretty obvious from the replies that this is all in the eye of the beholder, so get what speaks to you. But anyway, for my $.02, I'll be the contrarian as usual; I actually think the Sinn is more of an "office watch" while the Longines, while really nice-looking, is more "sporty." Not that it will matter in any real-world way.

I was on an elevator at work a few months ago and a guy was wearing the Sinn and it just really jumped out at me: its such a low-key watch, but I instantly noticed it. It has real wrist presence. I haven't seen the Longines in the wild so can't speak to that.

I, too, am very interested in the Longines VHP at 36mm. It's the only way to get that advanced L288 Longines HAQ movement in a smaller case size. However, the one hang up I have is that there are no photos of it in the wild on the wrist. As others have said, the looks are a matter of opinion. Get the one you want more!

Yeah! I would go to the AD to get a hands on feel if it weren't for the lockdown!
