I'm trying to replace the crystal in my 7002-7039. I'm using the original gasket. I've tried three times to press the crystal in...it seems to go in about halfway, but then it gets tough and the little press I have begins to distort. Relieving pressure then tipping the case over, the crystal simply falls out.

Is there a trick to this? Without the gasket, the crystal falls into the lip, so the crystal appears to be the correct size (Seiko OEM 32 mm). Do I need to grease the gasket? Seems to me like the gasket is not pressing around the crystal like it should but is instead squishing down against the lip, preventing the crystal from seating all the way in. What am I doing wrong?

This is the first time the watch has been opened...so everything is original.

Hi,

I'd double check the crystal needed for that watch. That one being a 7039 it would use the same crystal as the skx divers. The 7039 was a transitional model. I used to have this model Seiko and found out after much research and trial and error. Just a thought. Hope you get it all sorted out. :)
