I am looking for some help with selecting a seiko diver that looks similar to a seiko skx173 but (with 22mm lug width, black face. 42mm - 45mm case and up to 14mm thick). i have found some that i like but the lug width is 20 mm. any help would be much appreciated.

looking to spend up $400 and maybe a little more.

Hang on, the SKX 173, 175 and 007 all share the same case and bezel. The differences are dial design (different markers) and the 175 has a pepsi insert. All have 22mm lug/strap width and 42mm diameter. If you want to go bigger, the SBDC001 Sumo is 44mm but only has 20mm lug width and costs a little more than $400. The SBDC007 Shogun has a 43.5 diameter titanium case, 3 o'clock crown position and 22mm lug width but will cost you almost double the 001.

^Thats what I thought too. The smaller SKX007 I know of is the SKX013. I'd go for the Blumo and may even suggest the SSC line from Seiko, but I find that a lot of Seiko divers that are 42mm+ seems to have 20mm lug. I'd visit the Seiko sub-forum here to get better idea what to purchase next.

Stargates get you the right size and price -43mm case, 22mm lug width, priced $250 or lower. This is the SRP491. Curved case back makes it feel thinner than it is, as it hugs the wrist. Style somewhat different.
