Does anybody know the history of how Seiko ended up using its current set of hands that are used on the SKX (and others) series? From what I can see, it looks like the general shape started in 1975 on the Seiko Professional 600m diver's watch (6159-022) and in 1976 on the 6309 and continued unchanged to the 7002 then to the current SKX series. Does anybody know how how why that shape was chosen? Was there some earlier examples? Why the move away from the rectangular shape? Why has Seiko stuck with this design for >35 years?

Thanks,

are you doing a book report? if someone said, an original design that was easy to view. how would that help you? or if someone said, it's because it resembles the japanese symbol for ......... does it really matter? and if it really does matter to you, shouldn't you take it upon yourself to research it, instead of getting regurgitated info??

yes... but do you get my point?? it doesn't make you appreciate or hate the watch. i recently found out the ny0040 by citizen was actually used by the italian frogmen... now that's something interesting. hand shape is a design choice, it's not like the shape is easier to see 200m underwater, it's just a design.

"The hands of the watch reflect the traditional Seiko feel with the hour hand shaped as a sword with a pointer at the tip. The minute hand, in the meanwhile. is shaped like an arrow with a pointer at the tip also. "

I'm not a fan of the SKX007 hands, but they are very functional and fit the retro diver feel very well.
