New arrival today:

*Very* heavy. There's lume on the dial, but not the hands, the strap is cheap, and it has a bad case of Miyota stutter. But I love the way B&R's look. Also, the strap is held on with screw pins. Annoyingly, they require a hex key. I picked this up for pretty cheap mainly to see how that size case would look on me, if I was ever able to afford a real B&R.

As much as I need to fix the stutter, let's have a look inside, shall we?

Like the real thing, this watch is a front-loader. Four screws hold the crystal and bezel on, and there's a screw in the back that comes out to give you access to the stem release. Both the bezel and the stem release screw have o-rings.

Release the stem and pop the movement out...

No wonder it's so heavy! Instead of a plastic movement spacer, it's just a solid chunk of steel. This make sense, since completely hollowing out a block of stainless steel would take extra time, and the manufacturer would still have to pay for the whole block, even the bits that get cut out. The result is a fantastically heavy watch :D

As expected, it's a Miyota clone. It has a date mechanism, but there's no date window in the dial.

I never did fix the stutter. I forgot to release the mainspring and the movement exploded when I removed the top plate. The click is gone :( Fortunately, the watch cost about what I've paid for Pam-style cases, and Miyota clones are even cheaper than 6497 clones :D

your secret is safe with me....and the entire affordables forum.

I dig the sterile dial....
C'mon Squishy, dish; how much did ya pay?

Thanks for sharing the pics. I also really like the sterile dial. I am bummed that the hands are not lume.
I think it was $50 to my door....

Plus $15 for the new mov't from Ofrei >.<

Still not a bad deal. And yeah, it's pretty nice that all the usual buckle and caseback engraving is absent.

Thats odd that the numbers have lume...but the hands dont...so in the dark you can see the numbers...but have no clue what time it is :-!
oh and a pic of it with my last BR "homage"

To give you some idea of the scale...

Perfect watch for a night out drinking with the boys;-)
Ooh, which one is that? I'm not that much of a fan of the square B&R cases, but this diver style look rocks.
Modded Seiko 7002
solid hunk of steel mate! any mod plans for this one joel?

I kinda just like it the way it is. Plus the dial is so big that my hand options are pretty limited, unless I want silly-short hands.

The case might look good with some kind of ceramic coating, though...

And custom straps will definitely happen.
Congratulations! That is indeed a nice homage...:-!

You've done some sweet mods in the past, have you thought of making a set of hands yourself? I really like fat hands on the U-Boat/Welder's:-! I might give it a try one of these days.
I'm sure you could lume the hands, no?

Is there some relationship between Sinn and B&R? These hands/dial I thought were Sinn design, but I did some searches and see that B&R uses the same style.

From a previous thread:

Bell and Ross used to market Sinn watches under their name. Sinn also manufactured some models for them. You will see those watches actually say on the dial "Bell and Ross by Sinn". Bell and Ross now has their own manufacturing facility though.

Holy cow, that is huge! Nice look though, and still a decent price even after replacing the movement. I did the same with my Alpha "PO", the Miyota was a direct drop in replacement.

Cheers,

GREAT :-!

Sorry for the mvt explosion though ;-)
Where'd u buy that, SquishyPanda? Looks real good and it's in my price range.
Personally, I find the homages that take their own spin on the "instrument" look alot more interesting. The ones that are obviously trying to be complete knock-offs...meh...Those are $18 a pop on the streets of Vietnam. Not so interesting.
You might want to lume the hands.I have a couple of watches with great lume on the dial but none on the hands too.
