I’ve become quite fond of this Seiko SNKE53. It’s a reference I don’t see too often on here. It’s a little under 39mm, with 20mm lugs. It has a lot of ‘90s influence to me: wide, polished bezel, and sub-minute markers on the minutes track. It has some nice detail touches, like faceted hour markers and dual finishing on the date window (polished on the outer edge, blasted on the inside edge).
It’s about a second-and-a-half off from when I set it eight days ago, which is typical. It really punches above its weight. I wish I had discovered this one 20 watches ago, but then I might not have appreciated it. There’s something charming about modest Seiko 5s, especially when they deliver on finishing this way. That dial really brings it.
When I don’t want to reach for a diver, flieger, field watch, etc. and just want to wear
a watch, this one does it just right.
