Today I attended a court hearing. The lawyer representing our firm - one of the most prolific and diligent specialist lawyers I know - rocked this nice watch:

15558192

It an AW-80 1A, costs maybe 27 USD, worked well with suit and tie. When I asked him about it, he said that the watch gets the job done and is reliable. Obviously he could afford any watch he wanted, but chose that one. This little detail warmed my heart.

Next hearing will be in February. I made a note to wear the GW-5000 then, instead of the Longines Hydroconquest that I usually wear for formal events.

What does it mean, "he rocked" the watch? Was he playing Led Zeppelin on it?
I interpreted that to mean that he was melting faces.

so? i expect lawyers wearing those kinds of watches to deceive everyone
ain't no fools would trust a rolex-wearing-lawyer on trial
The firm I work with did a tiny project for FEMA last year. At the pre-bid meeting one of the contractors showed up wearing a dual tone Submariner. There's damn good money to be made building for FEMA apparently.

Woah. This takes me back. I used to wear this very same watch in high school. It's lost now.

I'm also a trial lawyer and whenever I'm in front of a jury, I make sure to wear a Casio. Last time it was a G Shock GWM 5610. Hey, if LeBron James can pull it off, why not me.

Optics matter.
Ah. So it's less about wearing a nice, inexpensive, reliable watch, and more about making an impression on the jury members - perhaps to get them to believe you are like them, and can be trusted?

Yep, that's why whenever I have to testify I wear a mechanical watch so they don't think I'll beat a guilty verdict out of them.

I've only been in court once. My lawyer wore a gold Rolex.

Perhaps I need a new lawyer ...

Reminds me of one of Chuck Norris' movies: "If I want your opinion, I'll beat it out of you." 😂 😂😂😂

Absolutely, that's what it's ALL about. I'm not an attorney. But, I took a course on public speaking / persuasive speaking. The majority of the attendees were attorneys.
I'm so disillusioned. ;)😂 Are things NEVER what they seem?

So I'm guessing most of the attorneys who wear Casios to court probably ditch them for their Rolexes after they are finished. 😁

Only lawyer I would trust. Decorated Marine Combat Veteran. Anybody that can embrace the suck is all right by me.

AMEN!

Was my dept head honcho and widely respected. Never met him, but that could be a good thing, no one wants to be called on to the carpet.

And a Marine, not ex-Marine, but a Marine.
